Position Summary
We are looking to onboard a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Project & Strategic Portfolio Management (PPM/SPM) to strengthen our consulting and advisory capabilities across global clients.
This role focuses on providing strategic advisory, solution guidance, and best-practice frameworks across the PPM lifecycle—spanning strategy alignment, portfolio optimization, scenario-based decision-making, implementation advisory, and operational excellence.
The SME will act as a trusted advisor to client leadership and internal teams, bringing deep experience in supporting organizations through PPM/SPM transformations and enabling data-driven portfolio decisions under varying business scenarios and constraints.
Role Objectives
- Provide high-impact advisory across PPM/SPM engagements
- Enable scenario-driven portfolio decision-making
- Align business strategy, processes, and technology solutions
- Strengthen delivery quality across presales, implementation, and support
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Advisory & Portfolio Governance
- Advise client leadership on Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) practices
- Guide strategy-to-execution alignment and portfolio structuring
- Define and validate portfolio governance frameworks, operating models, and KPIs
- Provide advisory on portfolio prioritization, investment planning, and benefits realization
- Guide clients in evaluating trade-offs across portfolios using scenario-based approaches (e.g., funding constraints, risk exposure, strategic alignment)
- Support clients in establishing SPM maturity models and transformation roadmaps
2. Solution Advisory & Design Governance
- Provide oversight on solution architecture and functional design
- Guide implementation teams on:
- Best-practice process design
- Data model alignment with decision frameworks
- Structuring inputs required for scenario evaluation (financials, resources, timelines, risks)
- Review and validate:
- Solution designs, workflows, and portfolio structures
- Prioritization mechanisms and scenario evaluation capabilities embedded in the system
- Ensure solutions enable what-if analysis and decision support for leadership
- Ensure alignment between business logic, data structures, and tool capabilities
3. Portfolio, Resource & Financial Management Advisory
- Provide expertise across:
- Demand intake and prioritization frameworks
- Portfolio lifecycle and governance
- Resource capacity planning and forecasting approaches
- Financial planning, budgeting, and portfolio cost management
- Advise on capacity vs demand balancing using scenario-based approaches
- Guide teams on incorporating constraints (budget, capacity, timelines) into decision frameworks
- Validate KPIs, dashboards, and reporting structures to support portfolio insights and scenario comparisons
4. Presales & Executive Engagement
- Support presales through advisory-led solutioning and value articulation
- Participate in client discussions, workshops, and discovery sessions
- Guide development of ROI models, transformation roadmaps, and scenario-driven value narratives
- Help articulate impact of different portfolio scenarios (e.g., increased investment, resource shifts, reprioritization)
- Provide expert input into proposals, presentations, and executive briefings
5. Delivery Oversight & Quality Assurance
- Provide governance oversight across implementation engagements
- Ensure adherence to best practices, frameworks, and intended outcomes
- Review assumptions, inputs, and outputs used in portfolio decision-making and scenario evaluations
- Identify gaps in approach, data quality, and solution design
- Support resolution of complex portfolio and prioritization challenges
6. Capability Building & Thought Leadership
- Develop frameworks, accelerators, and advisory playbooks
- Mentor teams on PPM/SPM practices and scenario-based decision-making approaches
- Contribute to Blogs, whitepapers, and best practice guidelines
- Standardize methodologies across advisory, implementation, and support services
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 10–15+ years of experience in:
- Project Portfolio Management (PPM)
- Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM)
- Consulting/advisory roles supporting enterprise transformations
- Proven experience in supporting organizations through PPM/SPM transformations
- Demonstrated experience in enabling scenario-based portfolio decision-making (e.g., prioritization, capacity planning, investment trade-offs)
- Strong understanding of:
- Portfolio prioritization and optimization frameworks
- Governance and operating model design
- Resource and financial planning concepts
- Experience working with PPM tools (Planisware/Smartsheet/ MS Project/Clarity, etc.) at a functional and advisory level
- Experience engaging with senior/global stakeholders
- Pharma / Life Sciences domain experience is a strong advantage
