Okulo Aerospace is an innovative, deep-tech startup based out of Bengaluru. Combining renewable energy, advanced composite structures, and precision engineering, we develop cutting-edge solar-electric hybrid unmanned aerial systems (UAVs) designed to revolutionize persistent aerial data acquisition. Our signature platform, SUVI, is officially Type Certified, marking it as India’s first solar-electric fixed-wing UAV to achieve this distinction. We envision a world where autonomous drones can fly continuously for months without landing, bridging the gap between terrestrial infrastructure and satellites.
We are looking for an accomplished structural design engineer with a deep background in advanced aircraft structures, composite materials, and structural optimization. As a Structures Engineer III, you will play a pivotal role in the conceptual, preliminary, and detailed structural design of our next-generation long-endurance platforms (ranging from LALE to High-Altitude Pseudo-Satellites). You will have the unique opportunity to craft lightweight, resilient airframes designed to withstand extreme atmospheric conditions while pushing the boundaries of flight endurance.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 4 years of experience in the design and analysis of composite structures.
- Demonstrated experience in the structural design and development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)
Technical Skills & Core Competencies:
- Strong fundamentals in structural design, load calculations, aeroelasticity, Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Well-versed in composite micromechanics with a proven ability to design structural components for aerospace applications, particularly within the UAV domain.
- Proficient in material selection and parameter optimization (e.g., thickness, layer orientation) tailored to specific application requirements.
- Good understanding of composite aircraft structure manufacturing processes, along with hands-on experience working with composite sandwiched structures.
Analysis & Software Expertise:
- Extensive experience in conducting static, dynamic, thermal, and fatigue analysis on composite components and structures.
- Understanding of flight envelope and load calculations for FE modelling for UAVs
- Advanced expertise in Simcenter FEA software.
- Strong coding knowledge in Python and MATLAB.
