Position Overview
The Structural Steel Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the preparation, coordination, and delivery of structural steel detailing and shop drawing packages in compliance with international codes and project specifications. This role ensures technical accuracy, quality control, project scheduling, and effective team management while serving as the primary liaison between engineers, fabricators, contractors, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Leadership
- Lead the preparation of structural steel shop drawings, GA drawings, fabrication drawings, and erection plans.
- Review and validate 3D models, connection details, and fit-up conditions.
- Ensure compliance with international standards
- Coordinate with structural engineers for design clarifications and RFI management.
- Oversee material take-offs, bolt summaries, and advance bill of materials.
2. Team Management
- Supervise and mentor structural detailers and modelers.
- Allocate tasks, monitor workloads, and ensure project deadlines are achieved.
- Conduct regular internal reviews and performance assessments.
- Provide technical training and continuous skill development support.
3. Project Coordination
- Collaborate with fabrication teams, project managers, and site engineers.
- Participate in BIM coordination meetings and clash detection processes.
- Track project milestones and maintain schedule adherence.
4. Quality Assurance & Control
- Implement internal QC procedures before submission.
- Conduct model audits and drawing reviews.
- Ensure compliance with client standards and fabrication requirements.
- Minimize rework and fabrication errors through proactive planning.
5. Software & Technical Proficiency
Expertise in:
- Tekla Structures
- AutoCAD
- Autodesk Revit
- Navisworks (for clash detection)
- Strong understanding of connection detailing and steel fabrication processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in structural steel detailing.
- Minimum 1–2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes and erection sequencing.
- Experience handling US, UK, or international projects preferred.
