The Strategic Writer/Review Analyst is accountable for successful execution of external-facing executive summaries, cover letters and responses for high-value, high visibility RFPs and other strategic and leadership-initiated documents as assigned. In partnership with Sales, BDCs, SMEs, Content Managers, Proposal Managers and OptumRx Leadership, the SW will write strategic RFP responses and/or content that reflects/differentiates the OptumRx value story, assets, scale and solutions in a cohesive, persuasive and customer-focused manner. In addition to strategic writing, the SW performs copy editing and when appropriate, rewriting, on proposal responses and proposal related documents to ensure final proposal submission is responsive, customer focused and in accordance with Optum Rx proposal development standards and stylistic guidelines.

Duties and Accountabilities:
• Develop and write strategic executive summaries and RFP/RFI responses for must-win and intergalactic new and renewal business
• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and other proposal department staff to write strategic responses as assigned
• As assigned, work with leadership to prepare letters, position statements and other documents for internals and external audiences
• Collaborate with Content Managers to develop new or update/edit existing RFP database content
• Interview client facing teams and SMEs to develop strategic messaging and articulate the proposed solution within the RFP response
• Perform research using all resources, including an extensive database of proposal content
• Customize database text as needed to: a) answer an RFP question directly and thoroughly; b) reflect the proposed service solution; c) persuade the customer that our products / solutions solve their specific problems
• Understand and articulate sales strategy, value propositions and key win themes
• As assigned, conduct end-to-end strategic proposal reviews to make sure all questions reflect the sales strategy, the customer-specific value story is woven throughout and that it reflects One Voice
• Coach / mentor less tenured writers and project managers
• Adhere to quality principles (responsive, accurate, concise, strategic), style guide, and other criteria for compelling and consistent messaging
• Adhere to established proposal processes and defined roles / responsibilities throughout proposal development
• Contribute to proposed development and implementation of process updates, improvements and writing models
• Develop innovative approaches for achieving positive outcomes and driving proposals to completion within the deadline requirements
• Manage multiple projects with a sensitivity to tight deadlines and to working in a collaborative group environment
Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Minimum of BA or BS degree in English, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field or equivalent experience or equivalent related experience
• 7+ years of proposal writing experience in the healthcare space (pharmacy, medical, benefits or behavioral)
• Demonstrated ability to create successful client messaging and articulate strategy in sales support materials, such as executive summaries, cover letters, RFP responses, and proactive proposals
• Proven ability to participate in strategic discussions
• Ability to manage multiple deliverables and prioritize work accordingly
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
• Experience working as part of a team to complete complex and time-sensitive projects
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams
Preferred:
• Knowledge of pharmacy, medical, behavioral health and other healthcare related products and services
• Experience interviewing stakeholders in preparation for writing strategic responses and new content
• Experience working with a content database, such as RFPio, and populating common sections of proposals
• Healthcare experience
• 5+ years of experience in pharmacy-related writing or product experience
