Position Duties
This is a student position responsible for assisting in the general operations of the central stores functions within the Physical Plant Department. Position may be responsible for assisting in a variety of departmental functions, including but not limited to assisting customers, order processing, inventory, general cleaning, or other related duties. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Regularly lifts items weighing over 60 pounds.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists customers in person and on the phone.
- Fills janitorial orders.
- Marks inventory.
- Stocks supplies.
- Performs general cleaning duties including sweeping.
- Operates pallet jack, forklift, and/or university vehicle.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.
- Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files.
- Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to work in a safe manner.
- Ability to drive a university vehicle.
- Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Student’s schedule should allow for working at least three consecutive hours (during 7 am - 12 pm or 1 pm - 4 pm) Monday - Friday and 9 – 22 hours per week.
It is expected that student employees project, present and keep professional attitude, attire, appearance and behavior as well as ensure proper and appropriate attire/appearance/behaviors with staff.
Other Qualifications
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
