Position Duties
This is a professional position responsible for planning, organizing, and performing services to support candidates in all initial and advanced programs leading to recommendation as an educator by the state of Texas. Responsible for performing duties as the certification officer of an approved state educator preparation program (EPP). Works under general supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Educator Preparation Manager, College of Education.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required.
Three years of related experience is required. Teacher certification and K-12 classroom experience is preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintains knowledge of and implements state educator certification policies.
- Assists department chairs and faculty in program assessment, evaluation and implementation of state educator policies.
- Determines candidate eligibility and recommends eligible candidates from initial (undergraduate and Alternative Certification Program (ACP)) and advanced programs for certification.
- Collaborates and communicates with school district partners to meet certification needs.
- Manages and maintains student records.
- Oversees admissions related to the EPP.
- Attends meetings of state EPP support organizations, state education agency and national accreditation council.
- Assists with preparation of departmental, university, state and national reports.

- Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes and standards related to the area of responsibility.
- Skill in the use of computer applications including spreadsheet, database and word processing software.
- Ability to develop, interpret and evaluate policies and procedures.
- Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students and the general public.
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
