Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai for a Steel Designer, Steel Detailer, BIM & Rebar Detailer. The role involves preparing detailed GA drawings, fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and erection plans for structural steel and reinforcement using CAD and BIM software. The professional will interpret architectural and structural drawings, coordinate with engineers and project managers, and ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and client specifications. Daily tasks include modeling structural elements, generating bar bending schedules, checking drawings for accuracy and constructability, and revising documents based on review comments. The role also requires close coordination with fabrication, site teams, and other disciplines to resolve clashes, clarify design details, and support smooth project execution.
Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in structural steel design and detailing, including preparation of GA, shop, and erection drawings for a variety of structural systems.
- Hands-on experience with BIM workflows and 3D modeling tools for steel and rebar, with the ability to generate accurate drawings and schedules from models.
- Solid knowledge of rebar detailing principles, preparation of reinforcement drawings, and bar bending schedules in line with relevant codes and standards.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings, identify clashes, and coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with international and local design and detailing standards (e.g., IS codes, AISC, BS, Eurocodes) and their practical application in projects.
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience in steel and rebar detailing.
- Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and quality-focused work approach, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with a willingness to learn, adapt to new tools, and contribute to a team-oriented workplace.
