Qualifications
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and experience equivalent to three years of professional human resources work.
Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in human resources administration or other related acceptable fields may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of one year.
Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time professional or paraprofessional human resources experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of four years.

Overview
The Employee Relations Consultant functions independently to perform tasks pertaining to employee relations, including workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and performance improvement programs. An employee in this classification fosters relationships with employees to promote and maintain a positive culture and workplace satisfaction. This classification differs from the Employee Relations Specialist in that an incumbent of the latter performs work of less scope and complexity. This classification differs from the Employee Relations Manager in that an incumbent of the latter performs work of greater scope and complexity and serves in a supervisor capacity.
Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and support to leaders on appropriate levels of discipline; advise leaders on appropriate process and steps for managing employee performance and/or conduct concerns.
- Review requests for disciplinary action and gather appropriate information needed for the processing of disciplinary requests, including drafting disciplinary letters, uploading documentation to personnel files, and closing cases.
- Serve as a resource to employees by assisting in problem-solving for employee issues, including work-life balance, mediation, and navigating difficult situations. Serve as resource to employees on questions related to policies, rules, and departmental procedures.
- Provide coaching to the workforce regarding areas of employee relations and workplace issues. Facilitate monthly compliance courses and ongoing engagements for employee relations topics.
- Review investigative memorandums; ensure appropriate follow-up and closure actions are taken related to each case.
- Process, respond to, and coordinate unemployment claims by required deadlines; support unemployment appeals hearings as required.
- Receive employee requests for written warning expungements, written warnings, administrative reviews of performance evaluations, and other related subjects. Provide decisions by required deadlines and ensure appropriate steps have been taken for resolution including request analysis, file review, and sending decisions along to appropriate parties.
- Provide support to leaders on performance improvement by assisting in the development of performance goals. Provide coaching and resources to leaders on managing employees¿ performance and/or conduct.
