About the role

Seeking qualified individuals for the position of Victim Services Advocate. The qualified individuals will be performing a full range of tasks in providing information, assistance and advocacy to victims of crimes and their families. DIVISION: Office of the Chief Court Administrator CLASS DEFINITION: This class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in providing information and assistance to victims and witnesses of crimes and their families. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Victim Services Supervisor or other employee of higher grade. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise lower level staff as assigned. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Court-based Duties: Provides direct case work services to victims, witnesses and their families; identifies, screens and initiates contact with victims, witnesses and families; provides information and assistance with respect to the criminal justice system, victims' rights and other social, health and financial services; identifies, investigates and determines the kinds of support services needed, such as social and mental health referrals, crisis counseling, court escort, and facilitating return of stolen property; utilizes community resources in assisting victims, witnesses and their families; assists victims in filing claims; informs victims and witnesses of case progression through all stages of the criminal justice process; assists victims and witnesses in preparation for trials; prepares victim impact statements for court and prosecutors' files; coordinates with and acts as liaison with State Attorney's Office; documents services provided to crime victims; informs and educates criminal justice officials and the public about victim or witness service programs through various public speaking and related media activities; trains and monitors program volunteers; may be appointed as Guardian ad Litem by the court; performs related duties as required. Information and Notification Duties: Provides assistance to those who call the 1-800 helpline; processes intake and update information in the Protective Order Notification Program; provides inmate status notification to registered individuals; maintains liaison with the Department of Corrections, Sentence Review Division and Board of Pardons and Paroles on inmate status; notifies protected parties of the expiration or termination of orders of protection; provides information and assistance with respect to understanding of the criminal justice system, victims' rights and other social, health and financial services; identifies, investigates and determines the kinds of support services needed, such as social and mental health referrals and crisis counseling; coordinates with and acts as liaison to State Attorney's Office in courts where there is no court-based Victim Services Advocate; documents services provided to crime victims; informs and educates criminal justice officials and the public about victim or witness service programs through various public speaking and related media activities; performs related duties as required.
