The color sorter’s primary purpose is to remove defective material from product stream. Color sorting techs will be able to learn and identify the different stages of tomato maturity and use that information to determine when to alert management that modifications need to be made. The utilization of this real time data will ensure that the product going into the cans are of superior quality all the time.
During our Harvest season, you will be expected to work at least 6 days a week. You will work any shift to support our Modesto Cannery during this time. Our Season runs from Mid-July through end of September but could extend.
This position will be primarily responsible for:
- Learning and being able to identify different maturity levels of tomatoes.
- Sampling tomatoes on an hourly basis from electronic color sorters to ensure the machines are working properly.
- Alerting designated personnel when an electronic color sorter is out of specification.
- Creating reports that trend the daily and year end activity of each different electronic color sorter.
- Imputing and recording hourly production reports that are provided to management.
- Identifying and reporting any production issues promptly.
- Assisting with other administrative tasks as needed to support production efficiency. This includes collaborating with team members and supervisors to address any operational concerns.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- The ability to perform simple math such as adding and subtracting.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
- Proficient in basic computer operations and office software.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; moderate stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires the following percentages of time committed to physical activity: 50% or more sitting, 25% or less walking, and 25% or more standing. The job is performed under occasional temperature variations and in a food production environment. Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees. The ability to lift up to 45 lbs. is required.
