Requirements A.A. Degree or 60 Undergraduate Credit Hours from Accredited College or University,
or Pass Para-Professional Test in Accordance with No Child Left Behind Act
Work Well with Children Follow Written and Spoken Directions
Handle Multiple Priorities and Tasks Team Player/Leadership Qualities
Strong Reading/Communication Skills Computer Literate
Pass Extensive Background Check Bilingual a Plus
CPR and First Aide Certified
General Responsibilities
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality, ethical and professional standards.
- Ability to comprehend and interpret both oral and written directives relevant to classroom instruction and other classroom activities.
- Always maintain a friendly outgoing demeanor and neat personal appearance.
- Ability to physically move about in classroom and assist with monitoring and supervising students and lift moderately heavy weight.
- Attend Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings as required to provide information necessary in making informed decisions to benefit the student(s).
Preparation
- Participate in in-service training(s) presented by the school and consultants to further advance knowledge and professional development.
- Establish and maintain rapport with students, administrators, teachers and parents.
- Assist with preparation of instructional aides, audio-visual equipment, and classroom materials.
Classroom Functions
- Assist teacher(s) in daily achieving instructional objectives with students.
- Provide additional help and academic reinforcement to students in small groups as necessary.
- Work with individual students requiring special attention, enrichment work, and remedial help.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teacher.
- Help teachers perform drill work, rote memorization, reading and storytelling activities.
- Assist teachers with checking notebooks, written and oral assignments, homework, correcting papers and providing feedback to students.
Campus Functions
- Monitor students during non-instructional classroom duties including snack breaks, playground breaks, lunch, assemblies, library work and other campus activities as necessary.
- Supervise small groups of students during field trips.
Special Assignments/Requests
- Complete all special assignments and requests in a timely manner keeping appropriate personnel advised of progress.
- Request additional help and information as required.
