We are seeking Platform Architects to build the foundational systems on which other teams rely. In this role, you will focus on platform-level products where your architectural patterns, API design choices, and technical documentation determine how multiple teams develop their solutions.

- This role emphasizes design work: 50% producing specifications, API contracts, and architectural decisions; 30% building complex platform capabilities; 20% conducting reviews and providing guidance. You hold technical authority over architectural choices. Once aligned with the team, your specifications become binding.
You will join a compact team of capable engineers with significant ownership and minimal bureaucracy. You design it, you implement it, you maintain it.
What You Will Be Doing
- Producing specifications prior to development work
- Creating APIs that ensure backward compatibility and future extensibility
- Recording Important Technical Decisions (ITDs) with clear reasoning
- Implementing sophisticated platform features
- Conducting PR reviews to maintain architectural coherence
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Extensive team leadership or personnel management
- Development on straightforward application-level products
- Attending continuous meetings
- Architecture work without hands-on implementation
Basic Requirements
Staff Software Architect key responsibilities
- A minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience
- At least 2 years designing systems where your APIs or architectural decisions were consumed or relied upon by other teams
- Demonstrated history of authoring technical specifications or technical decisions that were implemented by others
- Experience integrating AI tools into your development workflow

Working with us
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $100 USD/hour, which equates to $200,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
