Why This Role Exists
We're hiring a Staff Engineer to lead AI transformation across the entire Fly Fairly business โ and then stay to build the products that come out of it.
This is a two-phase role.
- Phase 1 (first 3 months, will also act as a probation period): You're embedded as our AI transformation owner. You go deep with every department, marketing, ops, CX, finance, product, map how they actually work, and redesign those workflows around modern AI tooling. You also architect and build our company-wide internal LLM platform: a central backbone of prompts, agents, knowledge, and tools the whole org can use safely.
- Phase 2: You continue as a full-time Staff / Lead Engineer. You own a meaningful domain inside the flights platform or our wider group portfolio, and you bring everything you built in Phase 1 with you.This is a rare role. It's part consultant, part architect, part builder, and it has a clear runway into AI and tech leadership."
What You'll Do
โ๏ธ Run structured AI discovery sessions with every department, map the highest-leverage pain points and redesign workflows around them
๐๏ธ Architect and build a company-wide internal LLM platform: prompt libraries, agents, evals, access controls, and cost management
๐ง Write production-grade code in TypeScript, Next.js, React, and Node.js โ you're hands-on, not advisory-only
๐งช Make sharp build-vs-buy calls on tooling and vendors, and defend those calls with clear reasoning
๐ Upskill non-technical teams so they adopt AI responsibly and effectively in their day-to-day
๐ In Phase 2, own a technical domain end-to-end and ship meaningful product work across the flights platform or a sister product in our group
What are you ideally made of?
๐ Deep, demonstrable experience leveraging AI in production, you know the strengths and failure modes of major LLM providers and have real opinions about what actually works
๐ญ Proven track record redesigning business processes with AI, you've helped marketing, ops, CX, or finance teams genuinely adopt AI for real use cases, not just demos
๐๏ธ Staff or Lead level architectural skills, you design systems that scale, connect cleanly across teams, and hold up under real traffic
๐ง Exceptional critical thinking and first-principles problem solving, you produce out-of-the-box solutions to genuinely ambiguous problems
๐ป Strong hands-on engineering in React, Next.js, Node.js, and TypeScript with a track record of shipping production-grade web apps
๐ฌ Excellent consulting and communication skills, you can sit with a CFO, understand their world, and translate it into a technical plan they trust
โก Startup or high-growth environment experience required. We're looking for builders, not passengers
๐ฏ Bonus: experience with RAG, vector databases, agentic systems, or internal LLM gateways in production
