Staff Accountant

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Accounting team. The primary focus of this role will be General Ledger (GL) accounting, intercompany transactions, and intercompany reconciliations, along with supporting balance sheet reconciliations and journal entry preparation.
The ideal candidate will have solid general accounting knowledge and hands-on experience working with intercompany accounting processes. This person should be comfortable preparing journal entries with a reasonable level of guidance, actively communicating with internal and external counterparties, following up on outstanding items, performing reconciliations, and reviewing results with the Accounting Manager.
This is a hands-on role that will also contribute to improving accounting processes, increasing efficiency, and maintaining a high level of accounting accuracy and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Intercompany Accounting & Reconciliation
- Prepare and record intercompany journal entries with a reasonable level of guidance from the Accounting Manager.
- Prepare and review intercompany transactions between related entities.
- Perform intercompany account reconciliations and investigate differences or variances.
- Compare intercompany balances between counterparties and identify discrepancies.
- Follow up proactively with counterparties to resolve outstanding balances and reconciliation differences.
- Research and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
- Maintain appropriate supporting documentation for intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
- Communicate actively with internal accounting teams and counterparties to ensure accurate and timely month-end close.
- Review completed intercompany reconciliations with the Accounting Manager and implement any required adjustments or follow-up actions.
- Assist with identifying opportunities to improve and standardize intercompany accounting processes.
General Ledger & Journal Entries
- Prepare journal entries based on established accounting procedures and guidance from the Accounting Manager.
- Ensure journal entries are properly supported, accurately coded, and recorded in the appropriate accounting period.
- Maintain organized supporting documentation, including contracts, confirmations, calculations, and relevant correspondence.
- Perform assigned balance sheet account reconciliations, including complex accounts.
- Gather supporting documentation and accounting records required for reconciliations.
- Compare account balances and supporting information to identify discrepancies.
- Prepare and post necessary adjustments with appropriate guidance.
- Ensure reconciliations agree to the ending balances reported in the General Ledger.
- Review account reconciliations with the Accounting Manager and take appropriate action based on feedback.
Accounts Payable Support
- Review invoices received through the Accounts Payable inbox.
- Confirm receipt of goods or services by communicating with budget owners or department leads.
- Process vendor invoices for payment through Concur and/or Oracle.
- Identify and resolve invoice discrepancies and vendor-related issues.
- Review invoice coding and ensure compliance with General Ledger guidelines.
- Review employee T&E expense reports in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Identify policy or procedure exceptions and communicate them to employees and the Accounting Manager.
- Submit vendor change requests to Procurement as required.
- Prepare payment proposals for Accounting Manager review and assist with payment processing.
Audit, Compliance & Other Responsibilities
- Support internal and external audit requirements by providing accurate documentation and responding to information requests.
- Ensure compliance with JSOX and internal control requirements.
- Maintain appropriate documentation of key processes and controls.
- Assist in strengthening the accounting control environment.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities.
- Perform other accounting duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- 2+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Hands-on experience with General Ledger accounting.
- Experience preparing and posting journal entries.
- Strong experience with intercompany transactions and intercompany reconciliations.
- Ability to investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and follow up with counterparties to resolve issues.
- Intermediate-level Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete assignments within established deadlines.
- Dependable, proactive, and results-oriented approach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with SAP, Oracle, and/or Concur.
- Experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
- Experience working with complex balance sheet reconciliations.
- Experience in a multinational or global accounting environment.
- Knowledge of internal controls, audit requirements, and JSOX compliance.
- Experience working with multiple legal entities and international intercompany accounting.
