Pantry and Warehouse Coordinator
St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati (SVDP) has served residents of greater Cincinnati for over 150 years with basic needs such as food, medicine, and homelessness prevention through its outreach center in the West End and through fifty-six parish-based volunteer Conferences (chapters). Job Summary: This position is responsible for supporting our Council’s food assistance as well as providing operational support to the Pantry and Resource Services team. This position will contribute to the daily operations of the Neyer Outreach Center’s (NOC) processing center and food pantry. The role is full-time Monday- Friday with occasional evening or Saturday hours. The typical schedule will be Monday- Friday from 7:30 am to 4pm. This team member must consistently model the mission and values of St. Vincent de Paul.
Job Responsibilities:
Pantry Operations: Oversee daily operations of the Catino Choice Pantry, consistent with SVDP mission, values, and expectations
- Ensure pantry is adequately stocked with a variety of food and that donations are promptly and safely sorted and stored
- Supervise Pantry Associates, and team of temporary staff (including college co-ops and Vantage participants)
- Coordinate volunteer operations and training in the Pantry
- Maintain appropriate storage and distribution of food and supplies as a responsible steward, in accordance with food safety regulations and partner parameters.
- Promotes the SVDP Mission and ensures a positive culture and working environment.
Neighbor Experience: Coordinates efforts to enhance the neighbor experience in the food pantry by promoting dignity, accessibility, and compassionate service across all interactions and operations.
- Coordinates efforts to ensure a welcoming, respectful, and dignified experience for all neighbors accessing the pantry
- Train and support staff and volunteers in person-centered service practices, emphasizing empathy, respect, and cultural sensitivity
- Address neighbor concerns, feedback, and complaints promptly and professionally to ensure positive resolution
- Collaborate with staff to create a consistent and compassionate service approach across all pantry interactions
- Foster a culture of hospitality and respect among all pantry team members and volunteers
Food Safety Operations: Coordinates food safety operations within the pantry by ensuring compliance by training staff and volunteers, and maintaining safe handling, storage, and sanitation practices across all food distribution activities.
- Ensure proper food handling, storage, labeling, and rotation practices (including FIFO – first in, first out) are consistently followed
- Train staff and volunteers on food safety protocols, hygiene standards, and safe food handling practices
- Monitor temperature logs for refrigeration, freezers, and storage areas to ensure safe food preservation
- Oversee cleanliness and sanitation routines for all pantry spaces, equipment, and food contact surfaces
- Promote a culture of accountability and awareness around food safety among all staff and volunteers
Warehouse Operations: Coordinate safety standards compliance, storage efficiency, volunteers in the warehouse, equipment and warehouse maintenance
- Coordinate warehouse operations at the NOC, including ensuring safety compliance, optimizing storage efficiency, overseeing volunteers, and maintaining equipment and facilities.
- Support and coordinate volunteer activities within the warehouse.
- Ensure all food safety, health, and workplace safety standards are consistently followed.
- Operate and maintain warehouse equipment, including the cardboard baler, forklift, pallet jacks, and double stacker as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-functioning warehouse environment.
Assist Pantry Manager: Support daily operations in the NOC processing center and food pantry
- Provide support during set up and close down of pantry operations
- Shop with neighbors as needed
- Support and lead volunteers in pantry tasks
- Assist in collecting, recording, and reporting pantry data, including use of our CMS database system and Excel spreadsheets
- Help support the Food Assistance Network by ensuring weekly orders are pulled by warehouse staff.
- Provide pantry leadership when the Pantry Manager is unavailable, including pantry operations and Monday’s.
Other
- Assist Pantry and Warehouse Manager with seasonal programming including Holiday Food distributions
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings
- Other tasks and duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or its equivalent required
- 1-2 years of previous supervisor experience preferred
- Previous warehouse, pantry, and/or grocery store experience preferred
- Servesafe or Ohio Person in Charge certificate preferred or obtained in first 30 days of employment
- A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record required
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Flexibility and a willingness to help where needed
- Ability to problem solve and coordinate resources, including leading volunteers
- Planning and organizational skills
- Basic computer skills, including the use of Microsoft office products
- Desire to serve our neighbors and carry out the mission of SVDP
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs
- Ability to speak, hear, and engage in effective communication, both in person and over the telephone
