Description

 

The small branch manager is responsible for the daily operations at the branch including scheduling and supervising staff, ensuring the facility is maintained, and providing patron services. Along with performing administrative duties, this position requires the branch manager to work any staff position, as needed, and lead programming and story times. In addition to stated responsibilities, the branch manager must also perform any other tasks that are necessary for the successful operation of the branch.

Essential Job Functions

· Manages, supervises, and participates in all daily service and support operations within a branch

· Trains new staff members and re-trains existing staff in policies and procedures and updates training as policies change.

· Arranges staff schedules to provide optimum coverage and service to the branch

· Conducts Youth Services programs

· Encourages, motivates, coaches, disciplines, and evaluates staff to ensure optimal service for patrons

· Ensures accurate and timely submission of payroll and leave records

· Maintains knowledge of library policies and procedures

· Interprets library policies, resolves staff and patron complaints and problems

· Ensures that building and grounds are properly maintained

· Notifies maintenance of any issues with the facility

· Notifies IT of any issues with computer hardware or software and internet connectivity

· Plans and executes programs for all ages 

· Performs other duties and assignments as designated by management

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

· Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and the public

· Must have the ability to make decisions recognizing established precedents, practices and systems and to use resourcefulness, tact, and courtesy in meeting new problems and in assisting with library patrons

· Must have the ability to carry oral and written instructions

· Must have basic computer skills

· Must have the ability to use copy machines

· Must possess the ability to manage other people 

· Must be able to use independent judgement to avoid bad patron relations

· Must have a thorough knowledge of library rules, regulations, and practices

· Must display the ability to work in many different library environments

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a library environment while sitting at a desk or computer terminal or while standing at a counter for extended periods of time. Physical exertion may be required to replace or retrieve materials from shelves, high and low. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation are essential to permit the employee to read and sort library materials and observe and review the work of others.

Physical Requirements

· Must have the ability to lift at least 25 pounds, push, bend, and reach as needed

· Must have the physical stamina to stand for extended periods of time

Minimum Education, Experience, and Training

· College degree required with a minimum of three years of experience in a library setting or five years of full-time library experience

· Must have a valid driver’s license
