Full-Time Social Studies Classroom Teacher
Position Summary
Bishop Dwenger High School, a Catholic college-preparatory school committed to forming Saints and Scholars, seeks a knowledgeable, faith-filled, and student-centered Social Studies Teacher. The Social Studies Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, engaging instruction while fostering students’ intellectual growth, civic responsibility, and moral development in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church and the mission of Bishop Dwenger High School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver effective instruction in assigned courses (e.g., World History, U.S. History, Government, Economics, Geography, Psychology, or other social science offerings as assigned)
- This position is for 11 sections of Government and Honors Government
- Develop lesson plans aligned with Indiana Academic Standards and Diocesan curriculum frameworks
- Promote critical thinking, historical analysis, research skills, and civil discourse
- Integrate primary sources, current events, and project-based learning into instruction
- Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative methods
- Maintain accurate and timely grade records in Power School and the school’s learning management system, Canvas
Faith & Ethical Integration
- Encourage reflection on historical and contemporary issues through the lens of Catholic social teaching
- Promote civic responsibility, ethical leadership, and service to the common good
- Foster respectful discussion of diverse perspectives within a Catholic educational framework
Classroom Environment
- Maintain a structured, respectful, and engaging classroom environment
- Establish clear academic and behavioral expectations
- Promote academic integrity and responsible scholarship
Student Support
- Provide academic assistance and mentorship to students
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress
- Collaborate with administration, counselors, and colleagues to support student success
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in faculty meetings, department meetings, and professional development
- Maintain appropriate licensure and pursue ongoing professional growth
- Serve as moderator for a club, team, or co-curricular activity as assigned
- Fulfill supervisory duties (e.g., lunch duty, study hall, arrival/dismissal) as assigned
- Support school-wide events and community-building activities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong content knowledge in assigned social studies disciplines
- Ability to facilitate thoughtful and respectful classroom discussion
- Effective classroom management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to integrate faith and civic responsibility in meaningful and age-appropriate ways
- Proficiency with instructional technology and data-driven instruction
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, Historical Perspectives, Economics, or related field
- Hold a valid Indiana teaching license (or ability to obtain licensure) in Government
- Commitment to the mission and Catholic identity of Bishop Dwenger High School
Start Date: Position for the 2026-2027 school year, starting in August 2026
