Position Summary
St. John the Baptist Catholic School seeks a mission-driven Paraprofessional (Paraeducator) to support our growing inclusion program. This role works collaboratively with classroom teachers and support staff to provide instructional, behavioral, and social support to students across grade levels, helping ensure all learners are served with dignity and excellence. The paraeducator plays a key role in fostering a structured, faith-filled classroom environment where every child is known, supported, and challenged to grow.
Primary Responsibilities
Instructional Support
- Provide small-group and individualized academic support under teacher direction.
- Assist in implementing differentiated instruction and accommodations
- Reinforce foundational skills in literacy and math
- Support students in general education and resource settings
Student & Behavioral Support
- Assist with behavior support plans and classroom management
- Help students with transitions, organization, and task completion
- Promote student independence while providing appropriate scaffolding
Inclusion Program Support
- Work with multiple students across grade levels (not assigned exclusively to one student)
- Support implementation of learning plans and targeted interventions
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and administration
Faith & School Culture
- Model Catholic values in all interactions
- Participate in prayer, Mass, and school-wide faith life
- Support a respectful, Christ-centered classroom environment
Operational Support
- Prepare materials and assist with classroom organization
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, and transitions as needed
- Maintain strict confidentiality of student information
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting
- Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with teachers and staff
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to the mission of Catholic education
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
- Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs
- Familiarity with behavior supports, accommodations, or intervention strategies
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and move throughout the school day
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Ability to assist students with mobility or physical needs, if required
- Ability to supervise students in indoor and outdoor environments
Work Schedule
- Full-time, school-year position (approximately August–May)
- Typical hours: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM (subject to school needs)
Compensation
- Hourly Rate: $17.00 – $20.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
