Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: other duties may be assigned:
Engineering & Platform Ownership
- Write production‑quality code and automated tests, owning the technical delivery, reliability, and health of observability platforms and services.
- Design, build, and operate metrics, logs, and distributed tracing pipelines across GCP, Kubernetes, on‑premises, and edge systems.
- Develop and maintain scalable observability architectures, ensuring high availability, performance, and cost efficiency.
- Analyze system behavior and performance data to identify optimization opportunities, reliability risks, and capacity constraints.
Observability Tooling & Architecture
- Lead implementation and evolution of OpenTelemetry‑based tracing, metrics, and logging standards.
- Design and manage metrics platforms (e.g., Prometheus ecosystems, Victoria Metrics, Grafana) at enterprise scale.
- Build or enhance custom observability tooling (e.g., query protection layers, metric governance tools, analytics utilities) to improve platform reliability and usability.
- Champion best practices for monitoring, alerting, SLOs/SLIs, and error budgets.
Code Quality & Technical Excellence
- Review code developed by other engineers and provide constructive feedback to enforce best practices in coding, testing, observability, and security.
- Triage, debug, and resolve complex production issues, tracking root causes through logs, metrics, and traces.
- Develop efficient algorithms and solutions with consideration for hardware constraints, network behavior, service operations, and cost impact.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor and guide engineers on observability design patterns, coding standards, and platform usage.
- Serve as a technical leader and role model, driving adoption of observability best practices across teams.
- Influence engineering culture by promoting data‑driven decision‑making, operational excellence, and reliability engineering.
Collaboration & Integration
- Work cross‑functionally with Infrastructure, Platform, Security, Data, and Product teams to ensure seamless integration and reliable operations.
- Participate in architecture and design reviews with peers and stakeholders to evaluate tools, technologies, and implementation approaches.
- Partner with platform and engineering leadership to align observability initiatives with business goals and platform strategy.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or SRE, with deep focus on observability.
- Strong hands‑on experience with metrics, logging, and distributed tracing systems.
- Experience operating observability platforms in Kubernetes environments.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Go, Python) with experience writing production‑grade code.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (GCP preferred) and hybrid/on‑premises environments.
- Deep experience with OpenTelemetry, Victoria Metrics, Prometheus, Grafana, and log‑based metrics.
- Experience designing cost‑efficient observability platforms and optimizing telemetry pipelines.
- Background in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering teams.
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading platform initiatives across multiple teams
