Job details:
Pace Robotics, incubated by SINE IIT Bombay and backed by Pidilite Ventures and IIMA Ventures, is transforming building construction with intelligent, multi-tasking robots. We've launched India's first multi-tasking construction robot with one of the most renowned real estate developers across India and the Middle East and have secured pre-order interests from top-tier firms in the region. Our flagship product, Centa Painter, automates paint, putty, and sanding for building interiors. Now, we're scaling deployments to seize global leadership in construction robotics within 24 months along with development on new robots for additional use cases across construction finishes.
To support our next stage of growth and to take the product to manufacturing at scale ready design along with new feature/technology development, we are looking for a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer who will lead the structural design, analysis and development of all mechanical components of our robots. The role involves working closely with the Product Designer and the Engineering team to design the specifications for the product.
What you will do:
- Conceptualize, design and analyze all mechanical components for the robot such as– base platform, linkages, mounting components, actuators, hydraulic components etc.
- Work on kinematic, dynamic and material analysis of all above components to optimize weight and improve robustness
- Work on optimizing all moving components, with an emphasis on improving accuracy, reducing failure and vibrations
- Work closely with the Product Design, Product Management and Engineering teams and lead the conversion of design inputs into highly engineered parts and development of manufacturing ready design
- Identify, on board and coordinate with external vendors, design consultants, fabricators etc as required to support the design and development efforts
Who you are:
- M.Sc/M-tech in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 5 years of work experience in robotics, CAE, FE and mechanical design including academic projects, industrial R&D projects
- Deep understanding of Kinematics, Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials and Design of Structures including Vibrations.
- Very strong base in mathematical topics – Integral + Differential Calculus, ODE + PDE, Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra and Laplace Transform
- Sound knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practices including GD&T, machined part/sheet metal design and material selection
- Deep experience of manufacturing methods and DFM including expertise with machining techniques/processes, sheet metal manufacturing, heat treatment, additive manufacturing and plastic moulding
- Sound understanding of Fluid Mechanics and Dynamics along with exposure to CFD
- Experience/knowledge with scientific programming on Matlab/Octave, Wolfram Alpha and simulation tools from Ansys/Altair, COMSOL, ADAMS etc
- Experience/knowledge with CAD tools such as AutoCAD/Solidworks/NX etc.
- You have the following personal attributes:
- Strong quantitative and data interpretation skills
- Highly organized and methodical in everything you do
- You love solving problems and look at them as an opportunity to grow
What's in it for you:
Globally, Construction provides a 1.6 Trillion Dollar opportunity, just by making the work more efficient. This is the market we are after. You will be an integral part of the core team of an early stage startup on a mission to change the way we build our world and disrupt one of the oldest and the largest industries. You will be designing products that can change the landscape of construction, become ubiquitous in project sites and be synonymous with construction of the future (Think of JCB and Tower Cranes of today.)
We promise you an environment that promotes unhindered innovation and one that can provide exciting opportunities for accelerated growth. You will be working with a stellar engineering team having diverse experience in developing robots for automotive, agriculture and construction industries. You will have immense learning opportunities as you will be working on ‘never-seen-before’ products for an industry that’s ripe for technological disruptions.
The compensation includes company stocks through ESOP’s.
