Job Title: Sr. Manager – General Insurance Underwriter
Location: Mumbai, Vile Parle East
Experience: 3–7 years
About the Role
We are looking for a General Insurance Underwriter to curate commercially viable insurance programs for businesses, helping them assess their risks, evaluate existing cover and fill the gaps.
Key Responsibilities
• Underwriting: Assess each risk against the insurer's appetite and set the right coverage, limits, deductibles and terms.
• Program structuring: Build GI programs across Fire/Property, BI, Burglary, Machinery Breakdown, Electronic Equipment, Marine, Engineering, Liability, PI, D&O, Cyber and WC.
• Insurer selection & placement: Choose the right insurers, issue complete RFQs, manage queries and track timelines.
• Quote analysis: Compare coverage, limits, sub-limits, exclusions, warranties and wordings, not just premium.
• Negotiation: Secure better premiums and terms, and build strong relationships with insurer underwriting teams.
• Policy review: Check that final wordings and endorsements match the agreed terms.
Candidate Profile
Must Have
• 3–7 years in commercial / SME / corporate GI underwriting or insurance broking
• Strong knowledge of Fire / Property and Liability insurance
• Hands-on experience with multiple insurers: RFQs, quote comparison and negotiation
• Sound understanding of policy wordings, exclusions, warranties and endorsements
• Comfortable working with structured data and technology platforms
Ideal Candidate
Technically strong, commercially minded, insurer-connected and comfortable with technology, ideally from a commercial underwriting or broking placement desk. Someone who knows good underwriting means the right cover, not the cheapest quote.
