Role Overview
The AIX Administrator will act as a
Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for AIX platform operations and escalations, ensuring high availability, performance, and stability of enterprise systems. The role involves managing AIX systems, clustering, virtualization, disaster recovery, and performance optimization in a
24x7 global environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the SPOC for daily operations and escalations related to AIX infrastructure
- Configure and manage High Availability and clustering environments (PowerHA / HACMP)
- Configure storage and High Availability assignments on VIO servers
- Develop, modify, and deploy application failover scripts
- Maintain and support infrastructure software such as GPFS and PowerHA
- Plan and execute failover and disaster recovery testing
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain AIX, HACMP, and HMC environments
- Configure and manage virtualized environments, including:Creating, modifying, and deleting virtual servers
- Perform performance monitoring and tuning of AIX systems
- Manage user administration and access controls
- Handle Disaster Recovery (DR) management activities
- Collaborate with vendors to resolve hardware and OS‑related issues
- Perform OS patching, upgrades, and system maintenance
- Evaluate system performance and provide periodic metrics and reports
- Participate in emergency response for system outages, upgrades, and critical incidents
- Provide 24x7 on‑call support as required
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and document incidents and preventive measures
- Create, document, and continuously improve processes, procedures, and operational standards
- Work effectively in a global, cross‑functional team environment
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and relevant experience
- 15 plus years of experience.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively
- Self‑starter with a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset
- Strong problem‑solving, time management, and documentation skills
Essential Skills & Certifications
- Strong experience in AIX system administration
- Advanced knowledge of UNIX shell scripting
- Strong troubleshooting and investigative skills
- Solid understanding of performance metrics and KPI trend analysis
- Excellent presentation and customer‑facing communication skills
- ITIL certification preferred
- Willingness to work 24x7 / 365 days support model
Good to Have
- Secondary OS exposure: RHEL / HP‑UX / Solaris
