About the Role
The Senior Director, Home Sourcing is a leadership role responsible for driving the end-to-end global sourcing strategy, matrix management, and operational excellence for Walmart’s Home (General Merchandising) portfolio. In this role, you will champion an Every Day Low Cost (EDLC) and omni-merchant mindset to deliver exceptional value, quality, and product safety to millions of end consumers. You will be responsible for defining the long-term sourcing roadmap, mitigating supply chain vulnerabilities, and using data-driven insights to manage multi-million-dollar business portfolios.
As a strategic orchestrator, you will partner seamlessly with global merchants, product developers, and cross-functional teams to categorize and scale a highly capable factory and vendor network. Beyond operational governance, you will serve as a key organizational leader—diagnosing talent capability gaps, driving digital-forward change management, and building a highly engaged team rooted in integrity, compliance, and Walmart’s Open-Door culture.
About the Team
The Sourcing team partners cross-functionally with Global Merchants, Product Developers, Compliance, and an expansive network of global manufacturing networks. The team focuses on scaling end-to-end supply chain strategies, establishing robust quality governance frameworks, and driving operational efficiency across the General Merchandising portfolio. By prioritizing trusted supplier relationships, advanced data analytics, and an "Every Day Low-Cost" mindset, the team builds a highly resilient, agile manufacturing ecosystem that champions private brand safety, innovation, and exceptional value for millions of customers.
What you’ll do
- Directs the quality strategy for Sourcing in Home Sourcing (General Merchandising) to ensure effectiveness and efficiency, the achievement of quality goals, and the appropriate use of the most current technology, systems, processes, and talent.
- Uses statistically valid means to determine the greatest risks and opportunities. Supports suppliers in the identification of opportunities to improve quality for Walmart customers.
- Supports factories and sourcing teams in the delivery of Merchandising strategies and best practices. Develops and drives the implementation of standard operating procedures and industry best practices to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensures product compliance with Walmart’s quality standards. Ensures samples of all products are tested by independent third-party laboratories to verify compliance with applicable regulations at the national and local levels of the retail market. Partners with product developers, merchants, and sourcing team partners to ensure factories are categorized by expertise and ability, providing the factory with the necessary tools.
- Ensures the overall quality and safety of Walmart private brand products by measuring, assessing, and weighing and combining supplier, factory, and product ratings against set product criteria. Responds to immediate safety concerns (for example, product withdraws/recalls). Oversee the implementation of preventive practices. Benchmarks private brand industry practices.
- Provides overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs; developing, communicating, building support for, and implementing business strategies, plans, and practices; analyzing costs and forecasts and incorporating them into business plans; determining and supporting resource requirements; evaluating operational processes; measuring outcomes to ensure desired results; identifying and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; promoting a customer environment; and demonstrating adaptability and sponsoring continuous learning.
- Develops and implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce by diagnosing capability gaps; recruiting, selecting, and developing talent; supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning; and leveraging the capabilities of new and existing talent.
- Cultivates an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics by integrating these values into all programs and practices; developing consequences for violations or non-compliance; and supporting the Open Door Policy.
- Develops and leverages internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals by sponsoring and leading key community outreach and involvement initiatives; engaging key stakeholders in the development, execution, and evaluation of appropriate business plans and initiatives; and supporting associate efforts in these areas.
- Extensive domestic and international travel to facilities, manufacturing plants, and vendor worksites, including consecutive overnight and extended stays.
What you’ll bring
- Sourcing & Quality Leadership: Proven track record of directing quality strategy and standard operating procedures within global sourcing operations (ideally in Home/General Merchandise). Demonstrated experience managing comprehensive quality frameworks, product compliance, and third-party laboratory testing to protect brand integrity.
- Analytical & Risk Acumen: Advanced capability to leverage data, predictive analytics, and statistically valid methods to mitigate product risk, evaluate operational processes, and optimize cost forecasting. Experienced in interpreting supplier, factory, and product ratings to make high-impact commercial decisions.
- Stakeholder & Relationship Management: Exceptional executive presence and matrix-leadership skills to partner seamlessly with merchants, product developers, suppliers, and factory networks. A proven collaborator who can cultivate strong internal and external partnerships to achieve shared business goals.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education & Experience (Option 1): Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field AND 7+ years of experience in supply chain, transportation, logistics, or related area.
- Experience (Option 2): 9+ years of experience in supply chain, transportation, logistics, or related area.
- Leadership: 3+ years of direct supervisory and people management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree: Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master’s in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Cross-Functional Depth: 3+ years of experience working across diverse, matrixed business segments.
- Industry Credentials: Professional certifications such as Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified Professional in Supply Chain Management (CPSM), Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt), or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).
