We are seeking a seasoned Senior BI Developer with a specialized focus on Apache Superset to join our data engineering and analytics team. With over 7+ years of experience in the business intelligence landscape, you will be the driving force behind our open-source visualization strategy.
The ideal candidate bridges the gap between complex data engineering and intuitive storytelling, leveraging a deep background in traditional tools like Tableau or Power BI to push the boundaries of what Apache Superset can achieve.
Key Responsibilities
- Dashboard Architecture: Design, develop, and maintain complex, high-performance dashboards in Apache Superset that provide actionable insights.
- Custom Templating: Create reusable dashboard templates and standardized visualization components to ensure consistency across various business units.
- Tool Transition & Integration: Leverage your experience in Tableau/Power BI to migrate legacy reports into Superset, optimizing for the web-based environment.
- SQL & Semantic Layer Management: Write advanced, performant SQL queries and manage Superset’s semantic layer (physical and virtual datasets) to ensure data accuracy.
- Client Training & Enablement: Lead workshops and training sessions for non-technical stakeholders and customers, empowering them to build their own "self-service" charts.
- Performance Tuning: Optimize dashboard loading times and query execution by collaborating with data engineers on indexing and caching strategies.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- The 7+ Year Mark: A proven track record in Business Intelligence, Data Visualization, or Data Engineering.
- Apache Superset Mastery: Deep hands-on experience with Superset’s ecosystem, including Jinja templating, security manager configurations, and chart overrides.
- The "Legacy" Edge: Significant prior experience in Tableau or Power BI, with the ability to translate complex DAX or Level of Detail (LOD) expressions into Superset-compatible SQL/Virtual datasets.
- Advanced SQL: Expert-level SQL skills (Window functions, CTEs, complex joins) across various engines (e.g., Trino, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, or ClickHouse).
- Customer-Facing Persona: Excellent communication skills with experience in technical training or consulting. You should be able to explain "Dimensions vs. Metrics" to a CEO just as easily as you explain "CSS overrides" to a developer.
- Front-end Basics: Proficiency in CSS/HTML for styling Superset dashboards and custom templates.
