Sr. Accountant – Detailed Work Scope
A Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the company's accounting operations, financial records, compliance, reporting, and supporting management in financial decision-making.
1. Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintain complete books of accounts.
- Verify and record all financial transactions.
- Ensure proper accounting entries in ERP/Tally software.
- Monitor General Ledger (GL), Trial Balance, and Chart of Accounts.
- Reconcile subsidiary ledgers with control accounts.
2. Accounts Payable (Purchase & Vendor Payments)
- Verify purchase invoices and supporting documents.
- Process vendor bills and payment vouchers.
- Monitor due dates and payment schedules.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure proper approval before payment processing.
3. Accounts Receivable (Customer Collections)
- Generate customer invoices.
- Monitor outstanding receivables.
- Follow up with customers for collections.
- Reconcile customer accounts.
- Prepare aging reports and collection status reports.
4. Bank & Cash Management
- Perform daily bank reconciliation.
- Monitor cash flow and fund requirements.
- Manage petty cash records.
- Verify bank charges, interest, and loan transactions.
- Coordinate with banks regarding financial matters.
5. GST Compliance
- Verify GST entries and input tax credit.
- Prepare and file:
- GSTR-1
- GSTR-3B
- GSTR-9
- Reconcile GST returns with books.
- Handle GST notices and departmental queries.
6. TDS Compliance
- Deduct TDS as per Income Tax provisions.
- Deposit TDS within statutory timelines.
- File TDS Returns:
- Form 24Q
- Form 26Q
- Issue TDS certificates (Form 16 & 16A).
- Reconcile Form 26AS and TDS records.
7. Payroll Accounting
- Verify salary sheets.
- Pass payroll accounting entries.
- Reconcile payroll expenses.
- Coordinate with HR regarding salary-related accounting.
- Ensure statutory deductions are correctly accounted.
8. Financial Reporting
- Prepare Monthly MIS Reports.
- Prepare:
- Profit & Loss Account
- Balance Sheet
- Cash Flow Statement
- Fund Flow Statement
- Analyze financial performance.
- Present reports to Management.
9. Budgeting & Cost Control
- Assist in annual budget preparation.
- Compare actual expenses with budgets.
- Monitor departmental expenses.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Prepare variance analysis reports.
10. Audit Coordination
Internal Audit
- Prepare audit schedules.
- Provide documents to auditors.
- Resolve audit observations.
Statutory Audit
- Coordinate with auditors.
- Prepare financial statements.
- Ensure timely completion of audit requirements.
11. Compliance & Statutory Requirements
- Ensure compliance with:
- Companies Act
- GST Act
- Income Tax Act
- Labour-related financial compliances
- Maintain statutory records and documentation.
12. Inventory & Cost Accounting
- Verify stock valuation.
- Reconcile inventory records.
- Monitor inventory discrepancies.
- Coordinate with stores and production departments.
- Analyze material consumption and production costs.
13. Fixed Asset Management
- Maintain fixed asset register.
- Calculate depreciation.
- Track asset additions and disposals.
- Conduct periodic asset verification.
14. Team Management
- Supervise junior accountants.
- Allocate accounting tasks.
- Review accounting entries and reports.
- Train team members on accounting procedures.
15. Management Support
- Provide financial analysis for decision-making.
- Support management during business planning.
- Prepare special financial reports as required.
