Position Overview:
The Referrals Coordinator is the direct scheduling link to all outside referral sources. This position requires quality, advanced scheduling knowledge in order to provide exceptional customer service to any non-SportsMED providers referring their patient. The position requires one to be detail-oriented while possessing extensive knowledge of the precertification, scheduling and billing process within the healthcare industry.
Job Duties:
Responsible for all aspects of scheduling all externally referred patients including:
- Reviewing prescription and authorization documents
- Obtaining all necessary documentation to ensure safe scheduling and efficient billing of orders received
- Solely responsible for entering orders into an electronic medical records (EMR) system, as well as coordinating prior authorization requirements with referring office staff members
- Assisting patient through the scheduling process while keeping the referring office informed of scheduling and/or cancellations
- Gathering relevant patient history, implant documentation and lab results required
- Scheduling, rescheduling and canceling appointments
- Verifying physician orders and obtaining necessary patient and insurance information
- Entering patient information into an electronic medical records records (EMR) system.
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 – 2 years' experience in medical or related field strongly preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures, knowledge of health insurance industry practices and/or scheduling procedures strongly preferred.
- Experience with EMR systems strongly preferred.
- Exceptional customer service, interpersonal skills, and communication skills
- Proficiency of electronic records systems preferred. Must have strong data entry and software navigation skills.
- Must be able to complete tasks with a high-degree of efficiency and accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment with frequent disruptions.
- Must demonstrate ability to analyze data and resolve complex problems.
