The Sportsbook Risk Manager is responsible for protecting the sportsbook from financial, operational, and regulatory risks by monitoring betting activity, managing market exposure, detecting fraud, ensuring pricing accuracy, and supporting compliance with regulatory requirements. The role works closely with Trading, Fraud, Payments, Compliance, Customer Support, and Technology teams to maintain a secure, profitable, and fair betting environment.

# Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Live Betting Risk Management
- Monitor all live betting markets in real time.
- Track betting patterns and identify unusual betting activity.
- Monitor market suspension and reopening.
- Detect latency exploitation and courtsiding.
- Review major sporting events for increased risk exposure.
- Coordinate with traders during live events.
- Escalate high-risk incidents immediately.
2. Exposure Management
- Monitor financial liability across all sports and betting markets.
- Review exposure by:
- Sport
- League
- Event
- Market
- Customer
- Identify excessive liabilities before they exceed approved thresholds.
- Recommend odds adjustments to reduce exposure.
- Implement betting stake limits when required.
- Coordinate hedging strategies with the Trading team.
- Produce daily exposure reports.
3. Market Risk Management
- Monitor sportsbook pricing and market accuracy.
- Detect pricing errors before customer exploitation.
- Compare internal odds against market competitors.
- Review automated pricing feeds.
- Approve manual odds adjustments where necessary.
- Suspend markets when pricing integrity is compromised.
- Verify settlement accuracy after event completion.
4. Fraud Detection & Investigation
- Identify and investigate:
- Multi-accounting
- Bonus abuse
- Arbitrage betting
- Syndicate betting
- Match manipulation indicators
- Account takeover attempts
- Identity fraud
- Payment fraud
- Conduct investigations using customer, payment, and device data.
- Prepare fraud investigation reports.
- Escalate confirmed fraud cases to Compliance and Management.
5. Customer Risk Management
- Assess customer betting behavior.
- Profile customers according to risk level.
- Identify professional or sharp bettors.
- Monitor VIP customer activity.
- Recommend:
- Stake reductions
- Betting restrictions
- Manual approval
- Account suspension
- Permanent account closure (where appropriate)
# 6. Compliance & Regulatory Support
- Support AML and KYC reviews.
- Monitor suspicious financial transactions.
- Assist with Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), where required.
- Ensure compliance with responsible gambling requirements.
- Maintain accurate audit records.
- Support regulatory inspections and audits.
7. Payment Risk Management
- Review deposit and withdrawal activity.
- Monitor:
- Chargebacks
- Payment fraud
- High-risk payment methods
- Cryptocurrency transactions
- Coordinate with payment providers on disputed transactions.
- Recommend payment restrictions for high-risk accounts.
8. Reporting & Analytics
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports covering:

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field.
Experience
- 3–7+ years in Sportsbook Risk Management, Trading, Fraud, or Betting Operations.
- Experience with online sportsbook or betting exchange operations.
- Strong understanding of pre-match and live betting markets.
