Principal Scientist; Air Quality Analysis
Location: Remote
Compensation: $150,000 - $170,000 annually (negotiable based on experience)
Spheros Environmental is looking for an experienced Principal Scientist to expand our air quality data analysis portfolio through new business opportunities and accelerated growth. The successful candidate will bring an established reputation in the field, nurture existing client relationships, and penetrate new markets. The Principal Scientist will maximize revenue in this growing market by increasing sales of data analysis, air quality modeling and forecasting, geospatial analysis, and broader scientific consulting services. Working under minimal supervision and as part of a larger team, the Principal Scientist will manage projects and ensure delivery with a high degree of organization and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
- Collaborate with diverse, cross-functional teams and senior executives to develop mid- and long-term strategic initiatives in support of company goals.
- Lead the design and execution of air quality data analysis programs.
- Translate complex air quality data into clear, accessible insights for non-technical audiences.
- Maintain familiarity with evolving federal, state, and local air quality regulations and standards.
- Integrate emerging technologies (e.g. real-time dashboards, GIS tools) into analysis methods.
- Lead reporting efforts including technical documents, public-facing summaries, and presentations.
- Foster and embrace a people-focused, high-performance culture that is aligned with our company's purpose and vision.
- Mentor a multidisciplinary team of scientists, analysts, and specialists.
Client Engagement and Business Development
- Identify new business opportunities and partnerships in air quality data analysis and related services.
- Lead proposal writing, scoping, and development of technical approaches for competitive bids and client proposals.
- Represent the company at conferences, client meetings, and industry events.
- Build long-term client relationships by understanding market needs and aligning them with our air quality analysis and modeling capabilities.
Project Management
- Manage complex, multi-stakeholder air data analysis projects from proposal through delivery.
- Coordinate with internal teams (e.g. air quality monitoring, climate science, litigation services, etc.) to integrate results into broader resilience solutions.
- Communicate results through clear technical reports, visualizations, dashboards, and presentations.
- Champion company policies and procedures and share ideas/suggestions for enhancing them
Qualifications:

Experience/Education: At least 15 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. BS + 11 years, MS + 10 years, PhD + 9 years) in Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Deep knowledge and understanding of the air quality data analysis market with strategic vision and insight

Proven experience managing projects, interacting with clients, and developing business. Experience in a leadership or senior management role is highly preferred.

Comfortable and familiar managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment through excellent organizational, time management, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.

Willingness to travel in support of project and business development activities.
