Job Summary
A Speech and Swallow Therapist assesses, diagnoses, and treats individuals with speech, language, voice, communication, and swallowing disorders. The role involves working with patients across groups in clinical, hospital, rehabilitation, or community settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, voice, and swallowing abilities
- Diagnose disorders such as:
- Speech and articulation disorders
- Language delays or impairments
- Voice disorders
- Dysphagia (swallowing disorders)
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs
- Provide therapy using evidence-based techniques
- Perform swallowing assessments and recommend safe feeding strategies
- Educate patients, caregivers, and families on therapy plans and home exercises
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists)
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and progress reports
- Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as needed
- Ensure compliance with clinical and ethical standards
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology / Audiology & Speech Therapy
- Valid license or registration with relevant council/authority (e.g., RCI in India)
- Certification in dysphagia/swallow therapy (preferred)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of speech, language, and swallowing disorders
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with diverse groups (pediatric to geriatric)
- Clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
- Patience, empathy, and problem-solving ability
- Team collaboration and multidisciplinary coordination
Experience
- Experienced candidates (2–5+ years depending on role level)
- Experience in hospital or rehabilitation settings preferred
