About the role
The Data Science team at SPAN is responsible for deriving value out of our data. This includes developing insights, designing algorithms, and building tools to monitor our fleet. We are part of the R&D department, and we do preliminary research and build prototypes of products that then make it to production later. As an intern on our team, you’ll be an integral part of our product development cycle. The role will give you a broad exposure to many aspects of data science: we’ll expect you to do a mix of data analysis, model development, and data collection.
Responsibilities
Collect, analyze and clean data sets
Prototype, implement and test new features
Collaborate with other engineers on projects to seamlessly build a cohesive product
Collaborate and communicate with non-technical stakeholders
Be ready to pitch in on projects outside of your main subject area, when needed
Potential Projects Areas
Develop algorithms to detect anomalies based on electrical consumption data
Develop automated rationality checks to detect issues with sensors.
Diagnose an urgent issue in the field by running data analysis against fleet telemetry
About You
We’re looking for interns with enough experience in data science to be able to jump in and participate off the bat. That said, you should expect to learn a lot over the summer! We’re especially interested in candidates who are self-motivated, quick learners, and who like being part of a fast-moving team.
Required Qualifications
Pursuing a degree in computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, or equivalent fields
Strong understanding of most common machine learning techniques and their application
Comfortable with the analysis of large data sets
Comfortable working with Python and SQL
Bonus Qualifications
Understanding of electrical engineering concepts
Experience in cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS)
Cool projects or coursework in data science / data analytics
The Internship position has a duration of 12 weeks and will start in May or June of 2024. Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, and have not graduated prior to end of the Internship term.
The hourly rate for this role is $32/ hour for undergrad students, and $35/hr for Masters or PhD students.
