Role Description The Space Tutor is a full-time, on-site role based in Dwarka, responsible for delivering engaging astronomy and space science sessions to school and college students. The role includes conducting interactive classes, workshops, and demonstrations on topics such as introductory astronomy, astrophysics, telescopes, and space science, using both classroom and outdoor observation activities. The Space Tutor will design and adapt lesson plans and educational modules aligned with SPACE’s curriculum, ensuring concepts are explained clearly and in an age-appropriate manner. Daily tasks involve preparing teaching materials, setting up equipment (such as telescopes and audio-visual aids), guiding students through hands-on experiments, and maintaining a safe, inclusive learning environment. The Space Tutor will also support outreach events, science fairs, and special programs, collaborate with school staff, and provide feedback and reports on learner progress and program outcomes.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of astronomy, space science, and basic astrophysics, with the ability to explain scientific concepts in simple, engaging terms.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching, tutoring, or facilitating workshops for school or college students, preferably in STEM or science education.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with confidence in speaking to groups and interacting with learners of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to design lesson plans, structure educational modules, and use hands-on activities to reinforce conceptual understanding.
- Comfort with using and handling basic astronomical equipment (e.g., telescopes, binoculars) and audio-visual teaching tools; willingness to learn new tools and techniques.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage sessions, events, and reporting efficiently.
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Astronomy, Space Science, Education, or a related field; higher qualifications or certifications in science education are an advantage.
