Reports To: Superintendent of Schools
The Middle School Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school, fostering a safe, positive, and student-centered learning environment. The Principal provides leadership in curriculum, instruction, staff development, student achievement, school safety, and community engagement while ensuring compliance with Board policies, district procedures, and New York State regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Leadership
- Provides leadership in curriculum development, instructional improvement, school improvement initiatives, implementation of Next Gen Learning Standards, New York State Portrait of a Graduate competencies, and Response to Intervention (RtI) practices.
- Promotes continuous improvement in student achievement and academic performance.
- Participates in ongoing professional development and district leadership initiatives.
- Experience in Professional Learning Communities preferred.
Personnel Supervision & Development
- Supervises, evaluates, and supports all school personnel.
- Assists with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, assigning, training, and developing staff.
- Conducts staff meetings and fosters collaboration to support effective school operations and instruction.
Student Services & School Climate
- Maintains high standards for student conduct, attendance, safety, and well-being while ensuring due process rights.
- Supervises extracurricular activities and promotes a positive, inclusive school climate.
- Facilitates effective communication and collaboration among students, staff, families, and community members.
- Provides leadership in curriculum development, instructional improvement, school improvement initiatives, implementation of New York State Learning Standards, New York State Portrait of a Graduate competencies, and Response to Intervention (RtI) practices.
Operations, Safety & Administration
- Oversees the daily operations of the school, including scheduling, budgeting, reporting, student records, and building management.
- Coordinates emergency preparedness, safety procedures, and district security systems.
- Ensures compliance with Board policies, district procedures, and state requirements.
Community & District Leadership
- Serves as liaison between the school and community and supports district committees, initiatives, and communication efforts.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
