This is your chance to dive into ridership analysis, GIS, and public outreach while gaining hands-on experience influencing how transit systems are designed and delivered.

This summer internship is 20 hours a week and is 100% in person at our office in Eden Prairie, MN.

The Transit Planning intern supports the agency through collecting data, conducting GIS mapping, analyzing ridership, and participating in public outreach for transit projects. They assist in route planning, service evaluations, and technical report writing gaining hands-on experience in suburban public transportation planning and policy.

Position Duties

  • Data collection, analysis, and mapping
  • Transit Research and Planning
  • Technical Report Writing and Communication
  • Participation in transportation studies

This internship is designed to support knowledge and skill development in:
  • Transit Modeling Software – GIS 
  • Local, state, and federal transit policies
  • Best practices for transit demand management 
  • Presenting and Communicating recommendations
  • Planning, executing, and launching new services


Minimum Qualifications

  • Entering junior year or higher in an undergraduate program or currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in urban/regional planning, transportation planning, urban studies, or a related field
  • Strong interest in transit planning, policies, and best practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Entry-level understanding of GIS preferred
