Southern Tier AIDS Program, Inc. is looking for a part-time LGBTQ+ Youth Center Assistant to join our Binghamton team! This position assists in all aspects of the coordination and facilitation of the Identity Youth Center. Facilitates a safe and welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies by bringing participants together through conversation and activities as well as through the enforcement of Identity rules and policies. Assist with the management and input of all programmatic data in an accurate, timely and consistent manner. The LGBTQ+ Youth Center Assistant reports directly to the Program Coordinator, Special Populations.
This is a part-time position working 15 hours per week. The hours of the position are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 2:15p-6:00p with occasional hours outside of scheduled work hours.
Responsibilities
The LGBTQ+ Youth Center Assistant assists in the coordination of the Identity Youth Center including:
• Assists with planning and implementation of a variety of events that are youth-centered and focus on principals of positive youth development.
• Increases positive LGBTQ+ youth and family coping skills surrounding mental health and substance use.
• Assists with establishing contact and developing relationships with designated communities through outreach for LGBTQ+ youth.
• Assists with organizing and/or planning special activities and events within designated communities.
• Recruits individuals for Identity Youth Center activities.
• Assists with recruitment and development of volunteers.
• Assists with planning and implementation of weekly educational presentations to LGBTQ+ youth
• Engages in Internet Outreach.
• Assists peers in developing leadership and life skills through modeling, guidance, and establishment of safe space and supportive activities.
• Works to enhance the Identity Youth Center to make it as open and welcoming to the designated communities.
• In accordance with STAP data collection procedures, retains accurate records on individual and group level interventions, education programs, presentations and outreach activities.
• Serve as a liaison to community agencies, organizations and groups in order to develop long-term relationships to support Identity Youth Center activities.
Salary
$17.50/hour working 15-hours per week, may vary depending upon experience.
Requirements
Education:
- High School diploma/GED and/or required experience.
Experience:
- Must be available when the Youth Center is open, typically 3pm-6pm Monday through Friday. Other times may be necessary from time to time.
- Professional experience working in human services/education, delivering educational programs and specific experience working with LGBTQ+ youth preferred.
- Computer literacy required.
- Organizational and communication skills.
- Data collection and analysis skills preferred.
- Physical demands are those associated with general office duties: sitting, standing and light lifting. The hours of this position are not within the normal workday or workweek.
- This individual is responsible for meeting the transportation and insurability requirements of this job. A valid driver’s license, clean driving record and reliable transportation is a requirement of this position.
- Must be 21 or over.
