About the role

Pastor Of Young Adults (YA Pastor)

This is one of the most significant hires Southeast Christian Church has made in recent years and will likely make over the next decade. We are not looking for someone to manage a ministry. We are looking for someone to start a movement.

Why Southeast? Southeast Christian Church is one of the largest and most influential churches in America. We have seen God do extraordinary things across our campuses for decades. But there is a generation, 18 to 29 year olds, standing right outside our doors, and we are going all-in on reaching and unleashing them. We are launching a Sunday evening service specifically designed for young adults. Fully SECC in theology, mission, and DNA, but built from the ground up with the next generation in mind. The Pastor of Young Adults will be the founding leader of this initiative: the architect of its culture, the shepherd of its people, the banner carrier and the builder of its team. This role carries weight far beyond a single service or a single campus. The young adults we reach and develop today are Southeast’s next generation of staff, elders, deacons, small group leaders, and church planters. The Pastor of Young Adults is not just building a ministry, they are building the future of THE Church.

What You Will Be Doing:

Vision & Leadership

  • Own the vision, culture, and strategic direction of the SECC Young Adults ministry
  • Lead the launch of a Sunday evening young adults service, from pre-launch through full public rollout
  • Serve as the primary voice and shepherd of the young adults community
  • Lead a staff that reaches and unleashes the young adult community
  • Represent young adults ministry at the senior leadership level, contributing to churchwide strategic conversations
  • Cast compelling vision internally and externally for why reaching this generation is among the church’s highest priorities

Preaching & Teaching

  • Preach regularly at the Sunday evening young adults service, this is a primary preaching role
  • Develop and lead sermon series that are biblically rooted and specifically addressed to the life stage, questions, and culture of 18–29 year olds
  • Collaborate with the senior pastor and teaching team on churchwide series integration
  • Model and cultivate a culture of biblical literacy and theological depth within the young adults community

Digital Presence & Platform

  • Develop and steward a social media presence that authentically represents the young adults ministry and extends its reach beyond Sunday evening
  • Work with communication department to create content that meets young adults where they already are (digital) with a voice and aesthetic that earns attention rather than demands it
  • Launch and lead a podcast as an ongoing platform for teaching, conversation, and cultural engagement
  • Use digital platforms not as a broadcast channel but as a front door, creating on-ramps for curious, unchurched young adults who would never walk in cold

Team Building & Development

  • Recruit, develop, and empower a team of young adult volunteer leaders who own meaningful ministry roles
  • Build a staff team with a clear leadership development pipeline
  • Identify high-capacity young adults and invest disproportionately in their growth and calling
  • Create a culture where young adults don’t just attend, they lead
  • Give young adult leaders the keys

Pastoral Care & Community

  • Shepherd the young adults community through significant life transitions: relationships, career, faith questions, loss
  • Priority community- Develop real discipleship community beyond a weekend service
  • Be known and accessible to young adults, not just on stage but in their everyday lives
  • Cultivate a culture of belonging where both the skeptic and the spiritually hungry feel genuinely welcomed

Strategy & Collaboration

  • Develop and steward a ministry calendar, budget, and programming plan aligned with SECC’s mission and AIM Goals
  • Collaborate with campus pastors to encourage young adult growth across all SECC campuses, not just the main campus
  • Partner with the college ministry to create a seamless discipleship pathway from college age into young adulthood
  • Track meaningful metrics — baptisms, group participation, serving rates, retention — and report with transparency to senior leadership

What We Are Looking For:

We are looking for someone who is equal parts pastor, preacher and pioneer. The right person for this role is not looking for a comfortable position in an established ministry. They are looking for a mission.

Character & Calling

  • A genuine, growing follower of Jesus whose faith is evident in both public leadership and private life
  • A demonstrated sense of call to the 18–29 generation, not as a career move, but as a conviction
  • Deep personal integrity, emotional maturity, and genuine humility to lead through ambiguity, setbacks, and growth pains
  • Alignment with SECC’s theology, mission, and core values: Be the Branch, Catch the Wind, Wreck the Roof, Grip the Plow, Empty the Jar

Leadership & Competency

  • Proven ability to build teams, develop leaders, and create organizational culture from the ground up
  • Strong communication gift — able to deliver biblically faithful, culturally engaging messages that move people toward Christ
  • High relational intelligence and the ability to connect authentically with a generation skeptical of institutions
  • Strategic thinking with the practical ability to execute
  • Comfort operating with significant autonomy and the entrepreneurial instinct to figure things out

Experience & Background

  • Meaningful ministry experience, preferably including direct work with young adults or college age communities
  • Experience building or significantly growing a ministry
  • Someone in the young adult life stage with the ability to speak its language and credible enough to lead it with authority

WHY SOUTHEAST CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Southeast Christian Church is not a church where talented leader (like the one required for this role) come to be managed. It’s a church where an “A leader” come to be unleashed. We believe the best days of this church are ahead of us. We believe the next generation is not a problem to be managed but a movement to be fueled. And we are willing to invest, in people, in resources, to make that happen. We are going all-in.
