Description

 

Prepares patient trays by putting on menus, silverware, napkins, cups, saucers, food, etc.

 

Prepares food for patient’s trays and takes requests for and prepares late tray orders.

 

Gets supplies of milk, cream, butter, ice, etc. for patient tray line.

 

Takes tray carts to floors.

 

Delivers between meal nourishments.

 

Serves food to patrons and employees, ladling out soup, serving meat, vegetables, etc., according to portion control guidelines.

 

Prepares toast when needed for breakfast.

 

Portions salad and desserts, such as pie, cake, pudding, etc.

 

Gets supplies, such as bread, milk, etc., from the kitchen. 

 

Replenishes food counter during meal; make sure there is a supply of silverware and dishes and keeps tableware supplies filled.

 

Prepares dishes and utensils for dishwasher and properly stores them after they have been washed.

 

Maintains sanitary conditions by thoroughly cleaning work areas and equipment in the department.

 

Cleans hot and cold counters, equipment, dining tables and chairs, carts used for cleaning and soiled dishes. 

 

Dusts windowsills, radiators, and doors.

 

Operates cash register and makes change.

 

Performs other related duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and risk of electrical shock.


The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

 

Requirements

 

City of Chicago or State of Illinois Food Handler Certification

 

High School graduate or equivalent

 

Good organizational skills

 

Good interpersonal skills

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Assists supervisory and skilled food service personnel in the preparation and serving of food for hospital patient’s and employees.
