Job Description
The Enterprise Technology Services organization partners with every part of the American Express business to power the company’s growth and innovation with trust and efficiency and drive competitive differentiation with speed. We support the delivery and operations of technology, digital, and data capabilities, platforms, and services globally. Specifically, our team is responsible for the company’s technology engineering, architecture, and infrastructure, providing 24x7 support to ensure uninterrupted, high-quality experience for customers and colleagues. We also provide product management for core enterprise platforms, and lead technology risk and information security, enterprise data governance and platforms, digital product and design, and enterprise AI platforms on behalf of the company.
Global Infrastructure (GI) delivers on-demand, modern, self-service infrastructure that delights customers while ensuring scalability, security, and stability.
The team is hiring a Solutions Architect II, to build cloud-native services and accelerate platform engineering initiatives. The role requires strong coding, system design, and production support capabilities in a modern Agile environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop backend services and APIs for scalable, secure, and reliable platforms.
- Write clean, maintainable code with strong unit/integration test coverage.
- Participate in code reviews, build automation, and CI/CD enablement.
- Support cloud migration and modernization initiatives using microservices patterns.
- Collaborate effectively with distributed Agile teams and stakeholders.
- Contribute to backend AI integrations, including service orchestration for GenAI-powered features.
- Implement AI capabilities to ease the day-to-day activity in cloud solutioning area.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong development experience in one or more languages: Java, JavaScript, Python, or Go.
- Hands-on experience with backend development
- Knowledge of modern datastores such as Redis, Couchbase, Cassandra, and PostgreSQL
- Understanding of cloud-native patterns, microservices, and application migration to cloud platforms
- Experience with AWS/Azure/GCP services (associate certifications are a plus).
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Argo and GitHub Actions.
- Exposure to Kubernetes/OpenShift, Docker, and service mesh is preferred.
- Strong analytical thinking, communication, and teamwork in Agile delivery models
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Good to have basic frontend development knowledge for better cross-functional delivery
- Practical exposure to AI/GenAI concepts and tools, with the ability to implement simple AI-enabled features.
