Solar System Design – Roles & Responsibilities
Solar System Design
- Work with AutoCAD, Solar Lab, PVsyst, Helioscope, and other solar design software to design solar installation systems.
- Design solar power systems (rooftop and ground-mounted) based on customer requirements, site conditions, and energy consumption.
- Perform electrical, mechanical, and structural design of solar PV systems.
- Conduct feasibility studies, site surveys, and energy audits to assess project viability.
- Develop and optimise solar system designs to ensure maximum energy generation, efficiency, and long-term performance.
Design Documentation
- Prepare and review technical documentation, including:
- System layouts
- Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
- Electrical schematics
- System specifications
- Ensure all designs comply with local regulations, electrical codes, and industry standards.
- Create Bills of Materials (BOM) and procurement lists for project implementation.
Software Tools
- Use solar design software such as Solar Lab, PVsyst, Helioscope, and AutoCAD for system modelling and simulation.
- Perform shading analysis and energy production estimation.
- Select appropriate system components such as solar panels, inverters, mounting structures, and other electrical equipment.
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and installation teams to ensure accurate project execution.
- Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
- Review system performance during operation and suggest improvements when required.
Customer Interaction
- Provide pre-sales technical support by understanding customer energy requirements.
- Present customised solar solutions based on client needs.
- Communicate with customers and stakeholders to resolve design-related queries.
- Prepare technical proposals, system reports, and project presentations for clients.
Research & Development
- Stay updated with the latest solar technologies, materials, and industry trends.
- Continuously work on improving design efficiency, system performance, and cost optimisation.
Key Requirements
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
- 6 months to 3 years of experience in solar system design.
- Hands-on experience with solar design software tools.
- Experience in residential, commercial, or industrial solar projects is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, Solar Lab, or similar solar design software.
- Strong understanding of solar energy systems, electrical design, and mechanical structures.
- Knowledge of electrical standards, codes, and regulations (IS, IEC, etc.).
- Ability to conduct site assessments and generate detailed solar system designs.
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills for coordination with clients and project teams.
- Close attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills
- Familiarity with project management tools is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Solar PV Design (e.g., NABCEP or equivalent) is an added advantage.
- Experience with grid-connected and off-grid solar systems.
- Knowledge of energy storage systems and hybrid solar solutions
