Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Lead Solar Design Engineer to lead the engineering and design of utility-scale solar PV projects. The ideal candidate should possess extensive experience in Renewable EPC, with expertise in designing ground-mounted megawatt-scale solar power plants. This role requires strong technical leadership, project management capabilities, and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions from concept through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design
- Lead the complete engineering design of utility-scale ground-mounted solar PV projects from concept to commissioning.
- Prepare, review, and approve detailed engineering deliverables, including:
- Plant layouts
- DC and AC system design
- Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
- Cable routing and cable sizing
- String sizing and inverter sizing
- Transformer selection
- Balance of System (BOS) design
- Earthing and Lightning Protection System (ELPS)
- Ensure designs comply with national and international standards, client specifications, and applicable electrical codes.
Solar Plant Performance
- Perform energy yield assessments using PVsyst.
- Optimize plant performance by improving Performance Ratio (PR) and reducing system losses.
- Conduct shading analysis, generation estimates, module orientation studies, and plant optimization.
- Evaluate technology options to maximize project efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Project Engineering
- Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for ground-mounted utility-scale solar projects.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, procurement, and construction teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support tender engineering activities, technical proposals, and design optimization during bid stages.
- Resolve engineering challenges during project execution and provide timely technical solutions.
Technical Leadership
- Lead and mentor a team of design engineers and CAD professionals.
- Review engineering calculations and drawings to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Establish engineering best practices, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance during client meetings, design reviews, and site visits.
Project Management
- Plan engineering schedules and monitor design progress against project timelines.
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure timely completion of engineering deliverables.
- Support procurement teams by preparing technical specifications and evaluating vendor offers.
- Participate in factory inspections, vendor technical discussions, and material approvals.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure engineering documentation complies with IEC, IS, NEC, and other applicable standards.
- Implement quality control processes for engineering deliverables.
- Support commissioning teams with technical clarifications and engineering documentation.
Required Skills & Expertise
- Extensive experience in Renewable EPC and Utility-Scale Solar PV Projects.
- Strong expertise in Ground Mount Solar Plant Design.
- Hands-on experience with PVsyst, Performance Ratio (PR) analysis, and Energy Yield Assessment.
- In-depth knowledge of DC and AC electrical system design.
- Expertise in Balance of System (BOS) engineering.
- Strong understanding of:
- Solar Modules
- Inverters
- Transformers
- Switchgear
- HT/LT Systems
- SCADA
- Earthing & Lightning Protection
- Experience with engineering calculations and design optimization.
- Familiarity with grid interconnection requirements and utility standards.
