Job Title: Soil Profiling Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Soil Profiling Specialist to conduct field investigations, analyse soil samples, and develop detailed soil profiles to support agricultural development, environmental assessments, or construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in soil science or geotechnical engineering, with practical experience in fieldwork and laboratory analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct soil investigations and sampling at project sites using appropriate field techniques (e.g., augering, borehole drilling, test pits).
- Describe and document soil horizons based on texture, colour, structure, moisture, and other key characteristics.
- Develop accurate soil profiles and logs for different layers of the subsurface.
- Analyse soil samples for physical and chemical properties (e.g., pH, permeability, compaction, grain size).
- Interpret soil data for suitability in agricultural use, foundation design, erosion control, or environmental remediation.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports including methodology, findings, and recommendations.
- Collaborate with geologists, engineers, agronomists, and other professionals as needed.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain and calibrate soil testing equipment and tools.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Soil Science, Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Science, Agriculture, or a related field (Doctorate's preferred).
- 5+ years of relevant experience in soil profiling, geotechnical fieldwork, or soil analysis.
- Familiarity with soil classification systems (e.g., USDA, FAO, Unified Soil Classification System).
- Experience with GPS, GIS, and soil mapping software is a plus.
- Strong report writing, documentation, and analytical skills.
- Physical ability to conduct fieldwork in varying terrain and weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to field sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in soil science or geotechnical engineering (e.g., CPSS, PE).
- Experience with geotechnical investigation equipment (e.g., penetrometers, cone testers).
- Knowledge of sustainable land management and soil conservation practices.
Work Environment:
- Mix of fieldwork and office/lab analysis.
- Frequent travel to remote or rural project locations.
- Potential exposure to outdoor elements, including extreme weather and rugged terrain.
