We're a small US software company. We build fast with AI-assisted development, and we need one exceptional manual tester who finds what the automated tests miss. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role. You will be the first dedicated tester on the team, reporting to the founder.
What You Will Do:
- Test new features and fixes before they reach customers: end-to-end workflows, edge cases, data imports, payments, permissions, and multi-tenant isolation.
- Write bug reports a developer can reproduce in one read — steps, expected vs. actual, screenshots or video, severity, and what you think the cause is.
- Build and maintain the test checklist for each product area; keep a regression pass that runs before every release.
- Verify data migrations: source records vs. what the system shows, count by count, field by field.
- Communicate proactively. You'll tell the team what you're testing, what you found, and when you'll be online — before anyone asks.
- Push back. If something ships that you flagged, we want to hear about it.
Must Have
- 3+ years of manual / exploratory testing on a production web application, with references who can describe your work.
- Excellent written and spoken English. You will write directly to engineers and occasionally read customer-reported issues. This is assessed on the call and in your writing sample — please apply only if you're genuinely fluent.
- Experience testing financial software — payments, banking, lending, collections, or billing — where correctness is mandatory.
- Meticulous documentation habits. Show us a bug report you're proud of.
- Flexibility. There is no set schedule. You'll work around the team's time tables — the founder, the implementation manager, and the engineer are in US time zones — and part of the job is live: reproducing a bug on a call, walking an engineer through what you found, joining a release check before it goes out. Some weeks that means early mornings IST, some weeks late nights. If you need a fixed shift, this isn't the role. What we ask in return is that you communicate — when you're available, when you're not, and what you found — clearly and without being chased.
Strongly preferred
- Time spent in a US debt-collections or receivables BPO — as an agent, QA, or trainer. You'll understand the users on day one.
- Experience with SFTP file imports, CSV data mapping, or CRM systems.
- Basic SQL to check what's actually in a table.
Compensation: monthly contractor rate, paid via a global payroll platform, negotiated on experience. A paid one-week work trial on real test cases precedes any offer.
