Role Description The Camunda Developer will design, develop, and maintain BPMN workflows and process automation solutions using Camunda for client projects. On a typical day, this role involves collaborating with business and technical stakeholders to understand process requirements, modeling workflows, implementing integrations with backend systems and APIs, and ensuring performance, reliability, and security of automation solutions. The Camunda Developer will also troubleshoot issues, optimize existing workflows, and contribute to documentation and best practices. This is a contract role, structured as a hybrid position with a mix of on-site work and some work-from-home flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement BPMN 2.0 workflows and DMN decision models using Camunda
- Lead end-to-end *Camunda migration* projects (e.g., Camunda 7 to Camunda 8, on-prem to Camunda SaaS/Cloud, or version upgrades)
- Analyze existing process models, identify migration risks, and define migration strategy/roadmap
- Develop custom Java delegates, connectors, and REST APIs integrating Camunda with external systems
- Optimize process performance, exception handling, and error/incident management
- Collaborate with business analysts and architects to translate business requirements into automated workflows
- Configure and manage Camunda engine deployment, clustering, and job executor tuning
- Conduct code reviews, unit testing, and support CI/CD pipelines for process application deployment
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers
- Troubleshoot production issues and ensure high availability of BPM applications
Required Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of overall software development experience, with 5+ years dedicated to Camunda (BPM/Zeebe)
- Proven hands-on experience with *Camunda migration* projects (Camunda 7 → 8, engine upgrades, or platform migration)
- Strong expertise in BPMN 2.0, DMN, CMMN modeling
- Proficiency in Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, REST APIs
- Experience with Camunda Modeler, Cockpit, Tasklist, and Optimize
- Hands-on with Zeebe (for Camunda 8), gRPC, and job workers (if applicable)
- Strong SQL/database skills (Oracle, PostgreSQL, or similar)
- Experience with messaging/integration frameworks (Kafka, JMS, or similar)
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI), Docker, Kubernetes
- Solid understanding of microservices architecture
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Good to Have
- Camunda Certification (Camunda Certified Developer/Professional)
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP)
- Knowledge of Elasticsearch, Prometheus/Grafana for monitoring
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies
Education
Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
