About The Role
We are seeking experienced software engineers at the tech lead level to join our team for a pivotal project focused on building datasets for LLM evaluation and training. This role involves engaging directly with high-quality public GitHub repositories, contributing to the development of verifiable software engineering tasks based on real-world repository histories. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in software development, automation, and open-source contributions, with the ability to analyze complex codebases and facilitate the creation of diverse datasets covering various programming languages and difficulty levels. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the intersection of AI research and practical software engineering, working closely with researchers and fellow engineers to push the boundaries of what AI systems can achieve in understanding and generating code.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of professional experience in software engineering, with demonstrated expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript. Proficiency with version control systems such as Git, containerization tools like Docker, and familiarity with setting up and automating software pipelines are essential. Candidates should possess a strong ability to understand and navigate complex codebases, modify and run projects locally, and evaluate test coverage and quality. Experience contributing to or evaluating open-source projects is highly desirable. Additional skills include excellent problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and the capacity to collaborate seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and triage issues reported on GitHub across trending open-source libraries to identify challenging tasks for LLMs.
- Set up, configure, and maintain development environments, including Dockerization and environment management.
- Evaluate unit test coverage and assess code quality to ensure dataset reliability.
- Modify, run, and debug codebases locally to test LLM performance in bug-fixing and code understanding scenarios.
- Collaborate with research teams to design and select repositories and issues that pose significant challenges for LLMs, aiding dataset diversity and coverage.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative team environment and ensuring project milestones are met efficiently.
