Job details:
The future of intelligence will be built on data platforms that are as scalable, dependable, and adaptable as the systems they support.
We’re hiring a Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure to design and operate the compute, storage, orchestration, and streaming platforms that support product, research, and analytics at Nucleus. This is a foundational engineering role focused on building the data backbone that enables teams across the company to move quickly without compromising reliability.
You’ll work on systems that sit at the heart of Nucleus’s platform: the infrastructure that powers pipelines, training workflows, experimentation, analytics, and internal applications. The work spans architecture, operations, performance, and developer experience.
In this role, you will
- Design and build core data infrastructure spanning storage, batch and stream processing, orchestration, scheduling, and platform services.
- Improve the performance, scalability, and reliability of systems that support product data, research workflows, and internal analytics.
- Build abstractions and tooling that make data infrastructure easier for engineers and researchers to use safely and efficiently.
- Operate and evolve data platforms across cloud and distributed environments, with strong observability and operational discipline.
- Partner with product engineering, research, and infrastructure teams to understand workloads and design systems that meet real usage patterns.
- Drive improvements in cost efficiency, resource utilization, security, and access controls across shared data platforms.
- Help define best practices around data lifecycle management, schema evolution, lineage, recovery, and reproducibility.
You may be a good fit if you
- Have experience building or operating large-scale data platforms, infrastructure systems, or distributed backend services.
- Understand modern storage, compute, orchestration, and streaming systems and the tradeoffs involved in operating them at scale.
- Are strong in one or more systems languages or backend/data engineering languages such as Python, Go, Java, Scala, or Rust.
- Have experience with cloud infrastructure, containers, workflow orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Care about building platforms that are not only technically strong, but genuinely useful to internal users.
- Bring a pragmatic, high-ownership mindset and enjoy improving systems that many teams depend on.
What makes Nucleus different
At Nucleus, data infrastructure is a force multiplier. The systems you build will support research breakthroughs, production products, and the internal velocity of the company. We care about robust foundations because they create room for ambitious work—and because the scale of AI demands infrastructure that is both elegant and resilient. If you want to help build the platform layer beneath frontier AI, this is the kind of work that matters.
