Calypso Developer – Job Description

Role Overview
A Calypso Developer works on the Calypso Trading Platform, a widely used system in investment banks for trading, risk management, and back-office operations. The role involves customizing, developing, and supporting Calypso modules across the trade lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and customize solutions within the Calypso platform
- Work on trade processing, risk management, and back-office workflows
- Configure financial products (FX, derivatives, bonds, etc.)
- Build and maintain interfaces with external systems (market data, accounting, payments)
- Write and optimize Java-based Calypso code
- Debug production issues and provide L2/L3 support
- Work closely with business analysts, traders, and operations teams
- Participate in system upgrades and migrations
Required Skills
Technical Skills
- Strong programming in Java
- Experience with Calypso Trading Platform architecture and APIs
- Knowledge of SQL / Oracle DB
- Understanding of Unix/Linux environments
- Familiarity with messaging systems (e.g., JMS) and integration tools
- Experience with version control tools (Git, SVN)
Domain Knowledge
- Capital markets understanding (FX, equities, fixed income, derivatives)
- Trade lifecycle (front office → middle office → back office)
- Risk concepts (VaR, P&L, sensitivities)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Computer Science, Finance, or related field
- 6+ years of experience in Calypso development
- Prior experience in investment banking or financial institutions
- Exposure to regulatory reporting and compliance systems
Good-to-Have Skills
- Calypso certifications
- Knowledge of other trading platforms (e.g., Murex, Summit)
- Scripting (Python, Shell)
- Agile/Scrum experience
