About The Role
We are seeking an experienced software engineer at the tech lead level to join our project focused on building large language model (LLM) evaluation and training datasets. This role is integral to developing verifiable software engineering tasks based on public repository histories, utilizing synthetic approaches with human-in-the-loop methodologies. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of high-quality open-source repositories, particularly those hosted on GitHub, and will be responsible for hands-on software engineering work that includes automating development environments, triaging issues, and assessing test coverage and quality. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge AI research by leveraging your software engineering expertise in a collaborative and innovative environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of professional experience in software engineering, with strong proficiency in at least one programming language such as Ruby. Candidates should demonstrate solid experience with version control systems like Git, containerization tools such as Docker, and basic software pipeline setup. A thorough understanding of complex codebases and the ability to navigate, modify, and test real-world projects locally are essential. Experience contributing to or evaluating open-source projects is highly desirable. Additional skills include excellent problem-solving abilities, strong communication, and the capacity to work independently or lead a team of junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and triage GitHub issues across trending open-source libraries to identify challenges and areas for improvement.
- Set up and configure development environments, including Dockerization and environment management, to facilitate efficient testing and development workflows.
- Evaluate unit test coverage and quality, ensuring that codebases meet high standards for reliability and robustness.
- Modify and run codebases locally to assess the performance of LLMs in bug-fixing and other software engineering scenarios.
- Collaborate with research teams to design and select repositories and issues that present meaningful challenges for LLMs, contributing to dataset quality and diversity.
- Lead or mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative team environment and ensuring project milestones are met efficiently.
