About The Company
Turing is one of the world's fastest-growing AI companies dedicated to accelerating the development and deployment of advanced artificial intelligence systems. With a focus on innovative solutions, Turing empowers organizations to harness the transformative potential of AI, particularly in the realm of software engineering and development. The company prides itself on fostering a dynamic environment where cutting-edge research meets practical implementation, enabling clients to solve complex problems efficiently and effectively. Turing's commitment to excellence, innovation, and diversity positions it as a leader in the AI industry, attracting top talent from around the globe who are passionate about shaping the future of technology.
About The Role
We are seeking experienced software engineers at the tech lead level to join our pioneering project focused on building large language model (LLM) evaluation and training datasets. This position involves engaging directly with high-quality public GitHub repositories to develop verifiable software engineering (SWE) tasks based on real-world repository histories. Our approach combines synthetic data generation with human-in-the-loop validation to expand dataset coverage across various programming languages, difficulty levels, and task types. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise in software development, environment automation, issue triaging, and quality assessment of codebases. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge AI research while applying practical software engineering skills in a collaborative and innovative environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of three years of professional experience in software development, with a strong emphasis on JavaScript and TypeScript. Proficiency in version control systems such as Git, containerization tools like Docker, and familiarity with setting up and managing software pipelines are essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to understand and navigate complex codebases, run and modify projects locally, and evaluate code quality effectively. Experience contributing to open-source projects or working with public repositories is highly desirable. Additional skills that are advantageous include prior involvement in LLM research or evaluation projects, and experience in building or testing developer tools and automation agents.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing and triaging issues across trending open-source libraries on GitHub. This includes setting up and configuring repositories, which involves Dockerization and environment setup to facilitate testing and development. They will evaluate unit test coverage and code quality, ensuring the repositories meet high standards for robustness and reliability. The role also requires modifying and running codebases locally to assess the performance of LLMs in bug-fixing and other software engineering tasks. Collaboration with researchers is vital to identify repositories and issues that pose challenges for LLMs, helping to improve dataset quality and diversity. There are also opportunities to lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering teamwork and knowledge sharing within the project.
Benefits
Joining Turing offers the flexibility of a fully remote work environment, allowing you to work from anywhere in the world. You will have the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking AI projects alongside leading LLM companies, gaining valuable experience at the forefront of AI research and development. This role provides a flexible work schedule with commitments of at least 4 hours per day and a minimum of 20 hours per week, with options to increase hours up to 40 per week. While this is a contractor position without medical or paid leave benefits, it offers significant professional growth, networking opportunities, and the chance to be part of a rapidly expanding industry that is shaping the future of technology.
Equal Opportunity
Turing is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. We provide equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law. We believe that a diverse team enhances innovation and creativity, and we are dedicated to creating an environment where everyone can thrive and contribute to our mission of advancing artificial intelligence for the benefit of all.
