Your Role And Responsibilities
Your Role and Responsibilities
AIX is the leading open standards-based UNIX operating system from IBM that provides scalable, secure, and robust infrastructure solution for enterprise customers. As a Operating System developer you will be responsible for
- Work with Product Managers, Senior leaders, and customers to understand the Business needs and implement the same in AIX.
- Adhere to the AIX development process and ensure successful delivery for the respective component
- Support migration, porting, and enablement of enterprise and open source codebases across modern compiler toolchains and platforms
- Support application modernization and compiler transition initiatives across evolving toolchain ecosystems
- Collaborate with compiler, toolchain, and open source engineering teams to validate fixes, resolve compatibility issues, and improve build and runtime stability
- Analyse runtime behavior and compiler output to identify performance bottlenecks and optimization opportunities
- Assist with debugging mis-compilations, crashes, and regressions in large‑scale C/C++ systems
- Contribute to internal fixes or upstream solutions
Preferred Education
Bachelor's Degree
Required Technical And Professional Expertise
- Strong C/C++ programming skills with experience on large or complex codebases
- Experience working with modern compilers such as Clang/LLVM or GCC.
- Solid foundation in systems programming on UNIX/Linux
Including
- Memory management
- Processes and threading
- Low‑level debugging
- Performance considerations
- Good problem‑solving skills and the ability to debug issues with or without a debugger
Preferred Technical And Professional Experience
- Hands‑on experience using GDB or LLDB for low‑level debugging
- Basic understanding of compiler behavior or internals (front‑end, optimization, or code generation concepts)
- Exposure to LLVM/Clang infrastructure or related tooling
- Performance analysis and tuning experience using tools such as:
- Valgrind, Perf, PMU, Nmon, Pipestat, or similar
- Experience working with:
- Git and common open‑source workflows
- Bug tracking systems
- Exposure to parallel or multi‑threaded applications
- Basic Familiarity with Java/JDK/JVM in mixed language system environements
