Job details:
We are looking for a hands-on Smelter Operations Engineer to lead the commissioning and daily operation of our Lead and Zinc smelting facility. Unlike a "desk engineer" role, you will be the technical heart of the plant, responsible for managing a three-furnace pyrometallurgical circuit (Roasting, Reduction, and Refining). You will ensure maximum metal recovery, maintain precise slag chemistry, and lead a technical team in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Operational Leadership: Manage the end-to-end operation of three separate rotary furnaces: Roasting (sulfur removal), Reduction (metal conversion), and Refining (purity optimization).
• Process Optimization: Perform on-site mass and heat balance calculations to maximize yields for Lead and Zinc.
• Slag & Flux Management: Control furnace chemistry and fluxing agents (Soda Ash, Iron, etc.) to optimize slag fluidity and recovery rates.
• Environmental Control: Oversee the performance of pulse-jet baghouses and desulfurization towers to ensure zero-loss of valuable metal oxides and compliance with safety standards.
• Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and fix operational bottlenecks in the Jaw Crusher, U-Tube cooling circuits, and automated casting lines.
• Team Mentorship: Train and supervise a local technical team on the safe handling of molten metal and high-temperature furnace operations.
Required Qualifications
• Degree: B.Sc. or B.Eng. in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: 5–10+ years of hands-on experience in pyrometallurgy, specifically with Rotary Furnace technology for Lead, Zinc, or Antimony.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of the roasting-reduction-refining sequence and secondary lead/zinc recovery processes.
• Mechanical Aptitude: You aren't afraid to be on the floor. You understand how the machinery works, from SCADA/PLC controls to the mechanical seals on a rotary kiln.
• Safety Mindset: Proven track record in managing toxic dust and high-temperature safety protocols.
