About the role

Description

In alignment with SEPA’s mission, the Manager, Educational Programs is responsible for the design and implementation of event content for members and the industry at large, including programs developed in partnership with SEPA’s educational partners, including, but not limited to RE+ Events and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). This position provides an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to bring new perspectives to an expansive array of programmatic offerings within a quickly growing organization. The position reports to the Senior Director, Education but will work in close collaboration with RE+ Events staff and other SEPA employees across all departments to formulate content and approach. The ideal candidate will have experience implementing a broad array of programming formats for a membership-based non-profit and will have familiarity with speaker and agenda management for large conferences, small workshops and online educational webinars. In addition, a candidate with a broad understanding of distributed energy technologies such as solar, storage, demand response and electric vehicles is required. This position requires the ability to quickly digest new information and organize it to ensure effective content delivery. The successful candidate is able to build relationships and is a natural collaborator. They are able to manage project teams effectively and facilitate dialogue with both colleagues and organizational leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities 

Project Management 

  • Serves as Project Manager for programming, including but not limited to requests and deliverables to the RE+ Events team.

  • Designs format and manages content development for a variety of programming events.

  • Leverages internal subject matter experts to identify topics to be covered and recruits speakers to address those topics at SEPA and RE+ Events’ events, workshops, and other educational forums. 

  • Leads development of programs utilizing a committee of external subject matter experts by organizing the recruitment of members, and managing communications and deliverables. 

  • Experience with Monday.com software

  • Conducts pre-and post-event meetings and assessments to continually improve programming: 

    • Develops evaluation forms and distributes to meeting participants 
    • Collects and analyzes evaluation results 
    • Incorporates feedback into the development of future events

Strategic Alignment 

  • Identifies opportunities to improve and expand upon existing educational programming for its members and the industry at large and recommends courses of action to the Senior Director, Education.

  • Ensures programming is aligned with overall strategic goals by coordinating across other departments such as content, membership, and marketing and communications.

  • Consults with the content team on developing topic-specific programming opportunities and supports additional projects as assigned. 

  • Reviews industry news to identify hot topics, trends, and items of potential interest to membership. 

Organizational Support 

  • Recommends process improvements to the Senior Director, Education. 

  • Supports the development and management of program budget and revenue targets.

  • Other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with utility or clean energy program/policy development.

  • Undergraduate degree in science, technology energy policy or similar, required; graduate level degree preferred.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills. 

  • Project management training preferred.

  • Experience as a presenter on utility issues and/or renewable technology topics at utility and industry conferences and meetings preferred.
